Trying to Keep up Life and #RichardArmitage blogging

I haven’t lost complete track of Richard Armitage but darn near. As some of you know, I started a business, and it’s taken almost everything out of me. It is working, but it’s like being pregnant, giving birth and then dealing with an infant. All things that take the stuffing out of someone in her childbearing years let alone someone like me who is long past that. Yep, that’s my concession that…

Girl Walk // All Day played at the Glawgow Youth Film Festival in February, and despite the pouring rain, the crowd came out to dance (umbrellas and all).

To celebrate this extraordinary film, Glasgow Youth Film Festival took Girl Walk // All Day to the streets of Glasgow on Wednesday 13 February 2013. 150 people attended the screening, despite the pouring rain! This short documentary discusses the people behind the project and highlights from the night.

This project was developed in partnership with Pidgin Perfect, an award-winning creative studio based in Glasgow. Pidgin Perfect has wide ranging experience in developing and delivering large scale public creative engagements. Most recently they represented Scotland at the 2012 Venice Architecture Biennale where they designed a series of theatrical events to bring local communities together.

This event was made possible by the following organisations:

Glasgow Film Festival
Pidgin Perfect
Glasgow City Council’s Stalled Spaces Initiatives and Area Committee Grants
Young Scot’s Creative Enterprise Fund
o2’s Think Big fund
Dance HQ
Dance House
#1 Blud Crew

Thanks so much to our enthusiastic fans and the fantastic crew at GFF.

How To Host A Girl Walk // All DayScreening

Here at Girl Walk HQ, we get a lot of emails asking if a person, organization or venue can host a screening. The answer is YES! Here’s how to go about it.

Find a venue: The first step is to reach out and find a venue you think would be a good fit*. We’ve shown the film indoors and outdoors at venues from 50 people to 2,000+ people, so it’s really about the night of the week and how many people you think you can pull in your town/city. If it’s warm, also consider outdoor screenings in public parts of town. Make sure the venue has at least 1 large screen installed in the venue – the bigger the better – and a good PA system. Or, make sure you are able to provide both of these elements.

Make it Yours: In the screenings we have produced, we work to create unique, immersive events that are venue-specific to each location. If a space is loft-like or gallery-like with big, white walls, think about having multiple projections at once. Consider what a pre-show might look like: other videos? Local dancers/dance troupes doing a live performance? A DJ'ed dance party right after the film? Sparklers? Anything you can dream up is oin the table. Straightforward screenings are also a-okay; we just don’t want you to feel limited. For inspiration and other examples, check out some of our past eventsandphotos of screenings

The Nitty Gritty: Once these pieces are in place, let us know what you have in mind, and we can work through administrative / event fees and other event logistics.

Getting You The Film + Getting the Word Out: We then provide you with the film either on Blu-ray, HD Cam, or as a hi-res digital download. (We discourage you from screening from a DVD). We also provide an official press release, hi-res film stills and a logo to help with promotion of your event. Lastly, we help publicize the event through our social media channels (twitter, facebook, instagram) and active newsletter base, though we do look to the host to lead the majority of the PR efforts for your own local audience.

OK! So, are you ready to plan a Girl Walk screening? Get in touch with us at [email protected]

*Previous venues include: courtyards, public parks, the beach, art galleries, lofts, restaurants, concert venues, movie theaters, football fields, outdoors on a giant screen in the middle of a fjord, projected on the underside of a bridge, etc.

Hello all,

We hope you and all of your loved ones affected by Hurricane Sandy are safe and doing well. We know many have been through a lot of turmoil this week, including losing homes, power, water, heat and more, and the Girl Walk team sends lots of love from cast and crew members scattered around NYC.

So, they’re firing up the theater, the bar and offering their fantastic gourmet popcorn for a full week of Girl Walk screenings. We hope you’ll come enjoy the warmth of the theater, and embrace the city through our film.
