When was the last time you made smth with your hands? ❓
Made a key charm and a wall hanging using Hanji Korean traditional ricepaper
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Hanji is a eco-friendly versatile material that I’m falling in love with more and more! Did you know that it’s washable? How awesome is that? Also, it may seem fragile, but it actually highly durable!

She also knits warm hats and mufflers that are available for sale!

This gorgeous dragon lantern can be found at Cheongyecheon stream as part of 2019 Seoul Lantern Festival exhibit.

Dragons are legendary creatures in Korean mythology and folklore. Usually seen as deities of the river or the sea, overseeing peace in the house, good health and longevity in the family, the harvest, catch and safe sailing. The lantern depicts a dragon holding a wish-fulfilling orb in its mouth–called yeouiju(여의주).

How to get here: the stream is within a walking distance from just about any subway line, but I’d recommend City Hall :)

Seoul Lantern Festival celebrates it’s 11th Anniversary this year with the theme “Your Seoul, Dreams with Lights.” Come down to the Cheonggyecheon stream and get lost in the fairy tale world of lights and traditional folk tale characters!

This is a boat I made carrying my wish :) Will it come true? You can make yours in the event area under the bridge, very easy to find if you just follow the path!

An Autumn Day by Lee Si-young

A dragonfly sat on the end of a persimmon branch
and dozed off all day.
Even with wind, it did not shake;
even with a cold rain smacking the branch,
it did not move over.
When I quietly approached it,
I was startled to see,
right there, it had arrived in Nirvana.

To me, autumn in Seoul is glorious, golden and smells of cinnamon and chestnuts.

One of my favorite places in Hongdae - Gyeongui Line Book Street and Gyeongui Line Forest Park. I love the idea of repurposing industrial areas and non-public spaces as parks and galleries and this park absolutely follows that idea! It’s a great place to visit for all book lovers but not only! Come check out all the small cafes and restaurants around the area! And enjoy a stroll!

KIMJANG, the making and sharing of kimchi, have has been recognized by UNESCO as an intangible cultural heritage items along with, of course, kimchi itself. “Kimjang allows Koreans to practise the spirit of sharing among neighbours, while promoting solidarity and providing them a sense of identity and belonging; Inscription of Kimjang could contribute to the visibility of intangible cultural heritage by enhancing dialogue among different communities nationally and internationally that practise foodways that similarly make creative use of natural resources,” said the UNESCO committee in regard to its decision to add kimchi and kimjang to the list.

Personally, it’s always a lot of fun to have an opportunity to take part in the making of kimchi! It’s an activity that’s fun and tiring, but ultimately extremely satisfying.

Come autumn, kimchi festivals and kimchi cooking classes offer a lot of opportunities to let foreigners experience the spirit of sharing and making something together - definitely worth trying!

Two little munchkins at the Seoul Fashion Week. Another side of the official fashion week is this - the most stylish children you’ll ever see all around DDP posing for the most prominent street style photographers! It’s an event on it’s own and the determination and hard work both the parents and their precious little models put into it are truly incredible!

Autumn in Seoul is all about fashion!

Peter Pabst <WHITE RED PINK GREEN>
The exhibition is inspired by the sets of modern dance stages of the late German dancer and choreographer Pina Bausch, known for her expressionist art. With a blend of movement, sound, and prominent stage sets, and with performers during the development of a piece (a style now known as Tanztheater), her creations became a major influence in the field of modern dance from the 1970s on.
The exhibition runs at Piknic Gallery until 10/27.

Autumn in Seoul can’t be fulfilled without a mandatory walk in Haneul Park! As October rolls in, silver grass and pink muhly come flooding my IG feed. It’s one of my favorite parks in Seoul, not only because I live close by, but because of the gorgeous Hanging view!

My advice: come early in the morning in order to skip the crowds. As early as sunrise! Otherwise you would be struggling to crop out couples out of your photos!

How to get here: Line 6 World Cup Stadium Station, Exit 1.

For your vintage shopping needs - Gwangjang Market is the best place in Seoul! Rows and rows of everything from unique vintage dresses to vintage Burberry coats. Shopping here is like going on a treasure hunt!

One of the largest markets in Seoul with over a 100 years history, Gwangjang market is truly a place where you can find virtually anything!

One of the spots to enjoy the night view in Seoul is Dongdaemun Design Plaza.
Designed by Zaha Hadid, the landmark is a stunning piece of architecture. But beyond that, it’s a microcosm of culture, fashion and more.
Once the sun goes down, the space transforms and exhibits a different kind of charm.
Check out the Night Market on the weekends or simply take a stroll around the impressive complex and enjoy one of the cafes on the premises - DDP is a wonderful place to enjoy your Seoul night!

Best way to get around the city? Subway!

All you are going to need is a T-money card and an app.

I’ve tried several apps over the course of my life in Seoul, the best one at the moment is KakaoMetro. I think it’s the best combo between interface design and functionality!

Best maps: KakaoMap and NAVER map.

Enjoy local ingredients, shop at the market & cook traditional Korean meals!

Together with the wonderful chef, we have prepared three dishes and even went on a tour of the Garak Mall!

The dishes were easy to cook and tasted amazing! The recipes are simple enough to become regulars in any household, I think.

We’ve used some seasonal spring greens for the pancake, but those could be easily adjusted according to the season and personal likings.

Korean traditional pancake JEON.

Look at all this health!

Clam soup.

Our chef picked up the freshest clams at the market early in the morning. How yummy!
