So, this was by far the hardest thing I’ve ever tried to transcribe+work up and it got me thinking a lot about virtuosity across different styles of music.⁣⁣⁣

Yes, it pretty universally equates to playing real fast, real impressive-like … But the values tend to be different.⁣⁣⁣

In classical violin there’s such a huge emphasis on perfectly even, clean runs. Clear tone. Nuance of dynamics. Kind of the opposite side of the musical world from the raw power of death metal.⁣⁣⁣

I definitely sat for hours with this solo slowed down, trying to pick out the actual notes he’s playing and going at the uneven parts and the patterns that just aren’t meant to be played on violin… And I prepped it like a classical nerd too! Metronome work up and everything. I thought I’d come up with a “super clean” version of the solo, but maaaaan did it not work out that way.

In the end… idk… Virtuosity is subjective. Sanitized perfect runs are overrated in the face of an overall powerful performance. Tap style guitar solos are cruel to play on violin..⁣⁣⁣

Musically, the whole band is also exploring the mix of elements from different genres and compositional layering. It’s a pure pleasure to witness the band putting their new tones in live shows which elevate the music to a visual level… As expected, the setlist is full of their new singles such as “The World Is Yours” and the recent hit “The Eagle Flies Alone,” punctuated with anthems from the last album like “War Eternal” and “You Will Know My Name” which immediately set the crowd on fire.
