Cameron Stalheim creates mixed-media sculptures that indulge the stuff of nightmares. His most recent work, and then I saw Colby on the Street and my fantasy died, is a striking depiction of a collapsed merman taking his last breaths. Several times longer than human height, the sculpture confronts us with an image of death: in this case, the death of our collective childhood fantasies (who didn’t want to live among the mermaids when they were young?). This is a section from my most current, (Unfinished as of 3/5/2018) painting. I like to create environments in my paintings that the viewer can get lost in.   Each time you view my work, there’s a chance you’ll see something that you didn’t notice before.

Dead Boys Dream ~ 2016 - 14 x 14 in. (35.6 x 35.6 cm.) … Something a bit different from my average subject matter. For several years I have avoided depicting humans in my paintings. I like this one because I think including the child adds a touch of mystery.
