Maybe we were meant to fall in love, but we were never supposed to be together. At every turn, we were kept from each other, by our company, the apartments we lived in, the countries we worked in, and the demands of our careers. But none of that stopped us from stealing illicit moments backstage at music and award shows or spending every break from practice in our own world. Still, when the time came, I left and you didn’t follow. I wanted to feel betrayed or disappointed that I wasn’t enough, but in my heart, I knew it. Our love was enough for kisses and quick lapses in judgement while we were in the same city, but it could never stand up to more. We weren’t brave enough to try and we couldn’t nourish a relationship that no one else wanted. But it was good. For a time.
