After an entire week in gestation, the time has finally come to initiate the extraction protocol. I have been waiting for this moment with bated breath. This being had a very poor chance of survival due to severe damage to the ovum. In the attached video document you can see the extraction of Specimen 02 from the birthing canister. Watch as the sample is raised from the hazy water. As you may have discerned from previous entries in this, the second incubation log, the creature in question is of the same origin species as Specimen 01. It is however dramatically larger! The pungent odour that was present early on in the embryo’s developmental cycle has given way to the now familiar and strangely sweet scent of a newborn entity of this kind. Once traces of the shell have been removed and the specimen has acclimatised to its new surroundings, I will make another log entry.

As you csn see, the specimen is rapidly outgrowing its habitat and keen to come out. One more night. The extraction will take place tomorrow.

Wow! This specimen is enormous!! Surely it is almost fully grown? Amazingly the infant seems to have suffered no ill effects from the damage incurred in transit! By my estimation we are at the final stage of daily growth spurts. If the being is the same size tomorrow, it may be time to initiate the extraction protocol!

An opening shell. A seed beginning to blossom. A newborn slowly emerging. It’s day five of the incubation process and the being within is healthily growing. Visibility is very low and seems to be decreasing by the day. I can’t be sure how much longer it will take, but I think the birth will be complete before the week’s end. If not, I will intervene on Saturday.

Nurtured by the soft light in the incubator, its vitality bolstered by the atmospheric neutralising agent, the embryo is cresting! It’s certainly a large specimen! I can just about make out an eye peering through the red haze. How long before it takes its first breath in this brave new world?

The liquid in the incubation tank is now very cloudy indeed. Gazing through the murk, you can see a faint impression of an unknown piece of alien anatomy. The cracks are spreading too, with a faint linear fracture along the equator of the egg, and concentrated cracking in the vicinity of the damaged area. I should point out at this stage the pungent odour that is emanating from the incubation tank.

As noted yesterday, this sample was damaged in transit. In this video document you can see the administering of a special elixir. This fluid should prevent any damage caused by the premature exposure of the being’s skin to our corrosive atmosphere. We can only hope.

Phase one of the incubation process for specimen 02 has now begun. For your information I have included a video document of the ovum introductory sequence. Please view with the sound enabled on your device. The hum that can be heard is the operating sound of the complex life support systems just beyond the range of the camera. After the egg is introduced to the tank, an injection of a special activating serum is necessary to begin the growth process. All of this can be seen in the video. Sharp eyed viewers may see that there is already a crack in the egg. This occurred during transit of the sample and all responsible parties have been dutifully dispensed with. It does make the incubation all the more difficult and a few extra steps may be needed along the way.
