Joy Division’s debut album, Unknown Pleasures, was released on 15 June 1979.

The album sleeve was designed by Peter Saville, who used an image of radio waves from a pulsar he found in The Cambridge Encyclopaedia of Astronomy.

Unknown Pleasures had an initial printing of 10,000 copies and failed to sell until Ian Curtis’s suicide on 18 May 1980.
