on a topic Absolutely Unrelated to the lotr daily discussion from two days ago, I think I’ve found a really good newsletter tool that’s not substack? because from what I understand substack is a blog + newsletter tool as in, what you send to people WILL be on the website as well? and what i need is just the newsletter so that the project stays more hidden than this.

anyways if anyone is using:

- substack and can tell me whether it’s possible to only use the newsletter without posting to your blog as well

- tinyletter and can tell me if it works for them (I set up an account on a 10 minute mail and it looks nice I think? but I thought maybe someone has more detailed opinions)

that’d be fucking cool of you and also I’d give you a kiss on the lips

oh my gosh tinyletter’s editor is so simple and intuitive and the markdown works properly unlike on another site I tested I’m in love

absolutely loving the daily dracula idea let’s do lord of the rings next

my guys (gn) i’m not kidding when i tell you i’d be absolutely ready to organise this if it wasn’t for copyright laws so as it is

screenshot of a google search saying: "when does the lord of the rings enter public domain", with the first reply reading: "In the US, Tolkien's works will enter the public domain 95 years after they were published. So, 2032 for The Hobbit, and 2050 for LotR? In the UK and other “life+70” countries, Tolkien's works will enter the public domain 70 years after his death."ALT

see you in 2044

okay but what if I said fuck it and just did it anyway

im gonna say fuck it and do it anyway I just need to find a newsletter tool that won’t pay too much attention to copyright! so if anyone has any info to help me with research that’ll be much appreciated

it’s all still a few months away anyway

definitely do research into how to protect yourself with this before you get started though! the tolkien estate is going a bit nuts in trying to control everything related to lotr (pretty sure they’ve threatened lawsuits at some point too)

oh yeah, absolutely, I mean I’d love to organise it and I don’t think non-commercial use could cause much trouble, but I’m gonna do very solid research because I know they tend to get crazy about the copyright

it’s like I told my friend, it would be super cool if it worked but I’m a chicken first and a human being second

also I was thinking

because following the exact dates would be very tricky (because we get September, April, and then September again), I could split everything that happens before Frodo leaves into a few parts and post them over the few days before September 22nd, and then keep posting according to the dates

absolutely loving the daily dracula idea let’s do lord of the rings next

the fact that there are three slightly differently produced versions of nightfall in middle earth and the best sounding one from the ‘traveller’s guide to time and space’ 2011 remix can’t be found anywhere on the internet is honestly a personal attack on me

this blog is five years old today holy shit!!

a screenshot of a miniature a post as seen in the tumblr archive. the miniature shows a picture of Legolas and reads "March 2, 2017"ALT
