This is one of the most romantic gestures anyone can make to their significant other.

Seriously, I will never forgive the season 8 writers of That 70’s Show for robbing us of a happy ending for Jackie and Hyde. They belonged together.

AU where Hyde grow up secretly loving a series of books for children called Amazing Jackie about a golden girl that had everything and was perfect.

Flashforward to his adult life, a new book of the series gets out, this time about Jackie’s perfect adult life. By destiny or by luck, he ends up meeting the real Jackie, a woman that is nothing like the character her mother created out of her insolated and controlled childhood.

The reality of just how lonely, sad and traumatized by the way her parents used her for money and fame, makes her way too similar to Hyde. Reallity has never been so cruel.

Hey guys! I while back I started reading a 16 candles AU with Hyde and Jackie, I’m pretty sure that’s the name of the fic, “Sixteen Candles”, and it was on ffnet but I can’t find it for some reason. It was around 8 or 10 chapters, finished.

Does anyone has the link for it? I want to finish reading it.

Thank you!

Episode 512.5 - “Valentine’s Day Preparations”

Comments:Just like with Jackie and Hyde’s first Valentine’s Day as a couple, we didn’t get Eric and Donna’s first Valentine’s Day after they’d reconciled on T7S. Season 5 brought back their playfulness, where their chemistry lies. It’s a key component of their relationship, which gets largely buried under storyline rehashes and writer burnout (for Eric and Donna, at least) during seasons 6 and 7 of T7S.

But their playfulness, competitiveness, miscommunication, ability to work out their mistakes with each other, etc. offer myriad avenues to go down with them – from the major to the minor. Their relationship, like Jackie and Hyde’s, inspires and challenges them to become better people, and those are some of the most interesting relationships (romantic or otherwise) for me to read about and write.

Episode 512.5 - “Valentine’s Day Preparations”

Comments:On the show, Jackie and Hyde’s first I love yous to each other have a lot of significance for their characters and their relationship. I’ve written about this in the following metas:

In the comics, I explored the significance more deeply than the show does and make in-character corrections to the intention behind Hyde’s first, “I love you,” to Jackie.

Jackie and Hyde have a lot complexity to their characters as individuals and as a couple, but since T7S is a half-hour (twenty-two minutes, really) sitcom, it didn’t delve as far into that complexity as it might have had the episodes been an hour long instead. But that left me (and others who write T7S fanfic, etc.) plenty of interesting places in Jackie and Hyde’s dynamic to dive into.

Comments:I made Jackie and Hyde’s question of whether the other loved them explicitly important in the comics. Its importance on the show is evident, but I shone a light on it. Jackie and Hyde, understandably, have a lot of insecurities around love. The people who were supposed to care for their well-being and survival (i.e. their parents) ultimately did the opposite. Kelso lied to and cheated on Jackie then blamed her for both.

Since Jackie and Hyde truly love each other, they’re both afraid of losing the other, particularly through being betrayed.

Comments:T7S gives us enough evidence that Jackie and Hyde’s relationship is as mentally and emotionally intimate as it is physically intimate. Hyde’s dynamic with Jackie inspires him to think more deeply about himself than he’s used to, to break through his denial about his feelings. These are some of my favorite moments to write for him (whether in the comics of fanfic).

Comments:I wanted to show when and how Jackie sleeping in Hyde’s room began. She spends two weeks with him there before she’s discovered by the Formans. That’s a good chunk of time, in that specific situation, for Jackie and Hyde’s to grow closer, for their love to grow stronger.

Responses to last week’s Kitty’s Question:Season 8 being written properly, focusing on an in-love and in-character Jackie and Hyde (among other characters), or the show ending in season 7 with a good ending for all the characters (including Jackie and Hyde)?

  • scaponigifssaid:This question is so hard because both answers would be great. The one good thing about s8 was the ending circle to signify a new decade so if order to keep that I’m gonna go with s8 being written well
  • secondearthlingsaid:Good ending for season 7, because I a full season without Eric would make me sad, even if it was well-written
  • insertsomethingpoeticheresaid:Season 8 being written properly, even if it’s without Eric. But it’s a tough one, tbh.
  • randomwriter23said:Season 8 being written well.
  • that-basket-casesaid:Season 7. 1. Aesthetically pleasing (7 seasons of That 70s Show). 2. Eric is still around and can really work things out with Donna and his future than the silly Africa story 3. No Kelso plotline. At least in S7 he’s a good dad, responsible with the women he went out with and treats Brooke with respect and care. 4. Donna is still a good friend and Jackie was striving to navigate her future and adjusting to independence/adulthood 5. Fez was still a good character. And Hyde was still bearable.
  • springsteenicioussaid:Season 8 because I did enjoy some parts of it. I’m the one person who liked Randy, lol.
  • queenbookbuffsaid:Season 8 written well. Watching them fully grow into Adults together and of course happy ending for J&H
  • thatseventiesbitchsaid:ending season 7 properly and having that be the series finale. i really dislike when shows try to go on after losing main cast members. never works, imo. Comments:The first appearance of Hyde twirling Jackie. On T7S, they’re shown to be playful with each other, and I wanted to depict more of that aspect of their relationship in the comics. The twirling headcanon has become so embedded in my skull (I came up with it a decade ago) that I sometimes forget it isn’t canonthen get disappointed.

In the second-to-last panel, I set up what Hyde wants Jackie “to do” in order for him to stop bringing up her outburst of, “Get off my boyfriend!” at Annette about Kelso. I wanted to keep it in-character instead of the OOC, boundary-breaking thing I believe the writers intended Hyde to mean. Hyde(from “Prom Night” [1x19] on) respects women’s boundaries – emotional, physical, etc., and he sure as hell wouldn’t hold his respect for Jackie’s emotional boundaries hostage so that he could violate her physical ones.

With that in mind, I made “the thing” he wanted her to do a location where he’d fantasized having sex. Not about an act he wanted to do to her body or her to his. The comics’ version is silly and relatively harmless vs. the implication in the episode where that dialogue between Jackie and Hyde takes place.
