Hiding

A/N: I haven’t written for a while. At least something decent, or what I think is decent. I asked for prompts and it has helped so here’s something.

@tragic-shadows requested: hey! don’t know if you’re still doing requests but if you are, Sloane finding out reader’s going through something traumatic? i really love seeing the psychiatrist side of Jack so maybe her discovering reader also has a crush on her? thanks, love your work!!

I hope this is what you were after :)

Warning this story mentions readers coming out, not being so well received. I don’t go into much detail but just so you know.

Sum:- Reader has been avoiding Jack, which is never a good idea. The team has had enough. Jack and reader finally talk.

… .

This year really has been hitting you from all sides. There was a brief week, maybe day, when you felt like you could breathe but that didn’t last. You’d been going to see Jack about it up until last month. She was getting too close to uncovering certain things that you couldn’t share with her. Wouldn’t share with her. That’s why you had been hiding in the observation room all morning staring at this email while Nick and Tim worked on a suspect.

“If you read it anymore she may just find you before you reply.” Ellie nudged your shoulder.

You sighed, hitting your head hard against the wall, causing Nick to turn around in interrogation. “When are you coming to see me? It’s been three weeks. Why is that so hard to reply to?”

Ellie smirked, “It’s not. Just say you found someone else.”

That made you laugh. “Then she will come find me.”

“Either way.” She shrugged. “This guy really doesn’t know shit.”

“Language.”

“Oh that resolution died the minute Nick tackled me at the gym last month.” You both smiled, remembering that particular training session.

The men were wrapping it up with the suspect so you quickly typed what Ellie said as a last resort and flipped your laptop shut. You immediately felt the earth shift but ignored it as you got up and walked out of your hiding spot. There was more work to be done now that that suspect was eliminated.

“You really are running out of hiding places if you’re down here.” Jimmy slid the tray in and closed the door on the victim. “Sleep well, Corporal.”

“I’m not -” You sighed, looking at Jimmy’s raised eyebrow and knowing smile. “Look, Kasie kicked me out because I was giving her bad vibes and she didn’t want to be in the middle of this so..”

“What makes you think I want to be in the middle of whatever this is?!” He was concerned, as anyone would be when there was a not so happy Sloane stalking around NCIS. He’d ran into her at the vending machine and questioned if he’d seen you. At that point in time, he hadn’t so he was safe. Now, he was worried, for both of you.

“Jimmy. I need to find this guy and I can’t deal with her and the case right now.”

“Then tell her that!” He sighed, sliding down the wall beside you. “She’s worried about you and now I am if you are hiding from the one person you usually run to.”

You snapped your head to look at him. “I don’t run to her.”

“Ok now even I can tell that’s a lie.”

“Fine, she’s a psychologist, don’t most people go to them if they have a -”

“That’s not what I meant and you know it.”

At that moment you heard the door open to autopsy and slammed your hand over Jimmy’s mouth. From where you two were sitting, you couldn’t be seen unless they walked further into the room.

“Jimmy?” Kasie hollered.

You removed your hand from his mouth and he got up.

“Why were you -? Y/N! So help me, she was just in my lab searching through every hiding place. You’re driving that poor woman mad. Go talk to her.” her hands were on her hips by the time she walked over and caught you.

Jimmy held out his hand and helped you up. “It’ll only make it worse.”

“I could always sneak home?” You grinned but neither of your friends were smiling.

“And the case?”

You sighed.“Fine.” Slipping your laptop under your arm. This was not going to be fun and what made it worse was the person standing just outside the elevator looking into autopsy right now. “How come the doors didn’t open.”

“I told her to stay in my lab. Why do neither of you listen?!”

You could swear at Kasie right now if you weren’t still staring at Sloane. The eyes you expected to be raging at you were instead concerned. There was something else there that you really didn’t want to see, sadness.

“Jimmy, I think there was something in my lab I needed to show you.” Kasie whispered. They both walked out the back way of Autopsy, the door shut as Jack’s sliding doors opened.

She stood just inside as the doors closed behind her, neither of you moved until you placed your laptop down on the desk and rubbed your hands down your face. “Jack I-”

“Don’t lie.” Her voice was tired, like after a full day of interrogating a suspect and getting nowhere or after a lover fight and not getting any sleep that night kind of tired.

“I can’t do this right now. I’m trying to work on the case and then you emailed and I…” Why was this messing with you so much?

She took a few steps toward you, to the first autopsy table. It still felt like there was a mile between you. “It was a simple email. I didn’t realise I bothered you so much.”

“You don’t, I…”

“I know you’ve been struggling, that’s why we were talking every Wednesday afternoon. You were really getting somewhere, sorting through work balance and your personal life. We left the last session on a high note. You opened up about letting people in again and even dating. Then nothing. I was ok with you being busy the first week but then…” She was now standing in front of you.

“I know. Work has been - and I haven’t been sleeping so well and talking isn’t something that comes easy as you know.” You both smiled at that.

“That’s why you come see me, remember.” She reached out and touched your arm, comforting you but you flinched away. “ Sorry - I didn’t - What’s wrong? Did I do something?”

“No.” You shook your head. “Of course not. I’m… Jack you were getting too close.” Now that wasn’t meant to come out, the hurt you saw flash across her eyes almost knocked you over. “I mean.” You groaned and she stepped back.

“I see what you mean. I guess going to see someone else is a good idea.”

Now you know you’ve really stuffed up. “Jack we are really good friends and I thought because of that I could open up to you and talk to you but some things… The lines got blurry and I can’t see straight.” You felt all those words come out wrong, so wrong but she needed an explanation. She deserved one.

There was a long pause, something that used to be comfortable between you was now awkward. “So we can’t be friends and be your psychologist. Seems to work for the rest of the team. They don’t avoid me, well, most of the time.” She tried to joke but neither of you felt like laughing.

You shrugged. “Thought I wasn’t like the rest of the team.”

If the ground swallowed you up now that would be the best because you couldn’t look Jack in the eye even if that was all you wanted to do to see her reaction. You felt her fingers ghost over yours, testing your reaction. When you didn’t pull away, that’s when she laced hers through yours. Her other hand came up to cup your cheek and bring your eyes to hers.

You swallowed before opening them and seeing her for the first time all day. Really seeing her for the first time in a while really. It was like there had been a fog between you since that last session, one you’d put there to keep everything at arms length, even further. Being near her at work had become too much, she’d unleashed something in you in the last session that you had buried a long time ago. Those feelings were so far hidden for so long that they barely existed until she ripped the lid off.

“So when I discovered that you weren’t straight and we went through the history of your family and them not coping and you hiding away. That was too much?”

“Jack, me not being straight wasn’t it. Sure I haven’t had the best coming out story but some things I just don’t talk about and certain feelings.” You looked down to your hands, her thumb stroking yours and her other hand still on your cheek. “That session got me thinking, I did what you said and started writing again.” You brought your eyes back to hers, your hand covering hers on your cheek. “Things I felt, hid from myself and the world. You opened me up and I poured out. I felt raw, I feel raw.” Her hand fell from your cheek to your shoulder and brought you in for a hug.

“I’m sorry but I’m glad you finally opened up… Why…?”

You pulled back, wiping a tear from the corner of your eye. “Why have I been avoiding you? Lying? Because Jack. Because I opened myself up to everything, every feeling and - “ Well it was now or never. You really didn’t think it should be done in Autopsy but now wasn’t the time to move.

“You have feelings for me?” She finally got it. Her eyes sparkled when you looked in them, a tear forming and she smiled. “That’s it isn’t it? I got too close.” You could see her putting the pieces together, all the moments.

“You really didn’t know?” It seemed obvious to you. At least all the moments she stood too close, touched you, spent together outside the office and cuddled on your couch some nights while drinking and watching trash tv.

She shrugged, still smiling. “I hoped. When you are in my profession you -”

You kissed her, those lips had been too tempting for too long even if you had buried it all inside. Her smile broke it too soon though, your hands coming up to her hair to hold her there for a bit longer. Pecking her lips because both of you were smiling now. “God I needed that.”

She laughed and kissed you. Her hand coming to your waist, pulling you in like her lips had been, her tongue asking for permission as your fingers speared into her blonde locks. You felt her nails dig into your hip and you hissed, breaking the kiss.

“Ow.” You pouted but she didn’t apologise, just soothed your wound with her thumb and kissed the pout away.

“I’ve seen you get shot into the vest and not complain. A little nail in your hip and you’re a complete baby.” She nudged her nose into yours.

“Like I said. Raw.” You winked and she kissed you again.

You felt her laugh and swallowed it. Now was not the time to break the kiss, she was in your arms and you didn’t feel like hiding anymore. You knew Kasie had set you up but now it was the best thing she’d ever done for you.

Hiding had always been your default. One thing the people closest to you knew and accepted but that was until Jack Sloane came along. She wasn’t afraid to break the walls down, to run after you and catch you even when you didn’t want her to or desperately needed her to.

The doors to Autopsy opened and you broke apart. Jack’s hand slid into yours as you both faced whomever it was. It was a smiling Jimmy. “So we aren’t in deep trouble then?”

You shook your head. “Nope.”

“Good because the next option was cornering you both in the elevator and..”

“Jimmy!” Jack sighed, gripping your hand tighter.

You looked at Jack. “You were all in on it?!”

She shrugged. “Like I didn’t know this was one of your hiding spots? Come on.”

You laughed. “It’s everyone’s hiding spot.”

Jimmy smiled. “Can never understand why.”

… .

I do like writing the banter and whenever I can add Jimmy in, I am happy. Unsure how I feel about this particular one. I’ve been in a mood rollercoaster for a while so.

Food for your thoughts

A/N: Well I had a small muse and late night brain and this happened. So :)

Summary: When you use food to spend more time with Jack and she figures it out.

… … … …

“Long day?” She smiled as you rested your head on her shoulder.

You watched her continue to type as you took a deep breath. “What day isn’t?” You added with a shrug. She stopped typing and turned, you lifted your head to look her in the eyes.

“Did you want to talk?” She tucked a loose strand of hair behind your ear and watched you close your eyes at the touch.

The moment made her smile, she loved it when you stopped by at the end of the day. It had become regular thing of late but she didn’t mention in fear that you may read too much into it. You both might. She cared about you deeply and cherished your friendship and knew if she spoke her true feelings things may change and not in the way she wanted. So she stayed silent, cherished the little things, like touching your arm in comfort or your hand in passing.

You opened your eyes to see hers cherishing you. Her soul was so open and it almost made you tell her. “Not about work.”

That was all you gave her and she wanted so much more. “Guess we can talk about something else then.”

. . . .

Like clock work at the end of the day you knocked and entered immediately if the office was free. She’d act like she was surprised to see you but you both knew that was a lie.

“What have we got today?” She bumped your knee with a smile as you dished out the takeaway.

“Italian from a place Ellie tried last month.”

“Took you a month to try it?” She teased before taking a bite of garlic bread and moaning.

You tried your hardest not to react to the sound and tried some yourself.

It was devine.

“Was saving it for a special occasion.”

Truthfully you were waiting to take Jack their for dinner but couldn’t work up the nerve. It had been months now. You coming by her office almost every day, then you started bringing food. People started noticing, why couldn’t you ask? You told each other everything but this.

She placed her hand on your knee. The warmth from her touch flowing across your body. “This a special occasion?” Jack had that teasing glint in her eye, trying to get more information from you than just that question.

“It’s Friday night?” It was a lame excuse and you saw the tease fade for a moment before she secured it back in place.

You sat in comfortable silence for most of the meal, it was easy with her. Most things were but they were also hard. Funny how contradictory it was, just like those dam feelings that kept floating to the surface whenever she was near.

The wine was going down a treat with the dinner and you were both starting to feel the effects once dinner was done.

“Thank you for such a special meal, again.”

“Don’t have to thank me, Jack.” You scooped up the rubbish, distracting yourself with something to do. She was so close and your self control was faltering.

“I feel like I do. You’ve brought me either dinner or lunch, well everyday this week. Almost this month actually. You know you don’t have to buy me food to sit with me, right?” She took a sip of her wine, watching you walking back from dropping the rubbish in the bin.

You faltered for a second before catching her eye and sitting back down on the couch. This time with a bit of distance between you. She definitely noticed but didn’t say anything, yet. “Don’t I? Then when will you ever eat?”

She was confused. “I eat.”

“Not that I’ve seen without me.” It was a silly tease but you both enjoyed the tease.

“You don’t think I eat on the weekends when we aren’t at work?”

“Maybe but how can I ever be certain?” If you weren’t tipsy, you’d almost think yourself smooth. Or stupid.

Her eyes brightened. “Guess you’ll have to take me out to dinner tomorrow night then.”

You smiled, pink shading your cheeks. There was no getting out of it now. Not that you wanted to. “Guess I may have to.”

“It’s a date!” She cheered and then the words hit her ears. “I mean -”

You almost choked on your wine at her sudden realisation. “It can be if you want it to be…” Your eyes locked on hers, time stilled and you were both trying so desperately to read what the other was thinking.

“I - I um.” She hesitated, overthinking it all.

Your stomach dropped. “Forget about it -”

“No. Please. Just - Just give me a second.” Her hand squeezing your knee as she put her glass down and closed the small gap on the couch. “Hey… Look at me.”

Your eyes had wondered off, in search of something less emotional to concentrate on. It didn’t work because a tear slipped down your cheek. She reached up and wiped the tear away, her hand staying there. “We don’t have to. I was messing around and I-” Fingers stopped the rest from spilling out.

“Don’t cry. God, I don’t want to be the one that causes you sadnss, Y/N. That’s why I’m hesitating, not because I don’t want to but-”

You couldn’t let her finish. She was so open and you were done holding back now. Her lips were soft against yours. When you felt her other hand come up to hold your neck, you leaned more into her, letting her take control as your hand squeezed her thigh and the other threaded through her hair. You didn’t hold back and gave all the emotion that had been bottled up for months as she poured hers into the kiss. Your brain went fuzzy as she began to slow down and pull away to catch her breath.

“Sorry I, I’ve wanted to do that for far too long.”

“Maybe not appropriate when I’m debriefing for a case but any other time sure.” Her eyes matching her beaming smile as she rested her forehead against yours.

You laughed, pecking her lips before being silent. Enjoying the moment with her before words had to be said. “So dinner tomorrow?”

“Don’t think I can wait that long.” Her voice was like velvet and sex. Those beautiful lips found yours again and you were both lost.

. . . .

Have a great weekend everyone!

A Birthday To Remember…

A/N: Because why wouldn’t I write a birthday themed and not actually write my Multi chapter that I desperately need to update. Anywhooo

Sum: It’s my birthday except you don’t feel much like partying because there was a promise and it looks like the promise may be broken.

Gif by Regal Roni, not me. I just save em to my phone alot. :)

… .

The clock hit you should be at the bar two hours ago and you still hadn’t moved from your desk. This last report was killing you and everyone had left for the bar two hours ago when you promised you’d only be five minutes more. What was even worse was everyone was at the bar because it was yourbirthday.

You’d gotten a call from Bishop an hour ago and then one from Tim about ten minutes ago threatening to come get you. You ignored the one from Gibbs just then because there was no use. You were almost done and you didn’t want to talk to anyone.

The bar was Bishop’s idea about a week ago. You, on the other hand, just wanted to have a quiet one, no case, a nice meal with… With Jack.

That’s what had been bothering you so much. She promised a month ago over drinks that she’d take you out for dinner on your birthday. You may have mentioned you were doing anything and she wouldn’t allow that being your friend.

Then two days ago she’d been called away to San Diego to help with a cold case that had got a hot lead. She left without a word. Not that you were anything more than friends or colleagues and she needed to inform you where she was at all times but the thought of her forgetting or missing your birthday made you just want to go home. She’d made a big deal about it at the time. Saying ‘everyone should celebrate their birthday!’ That it’s the one day a year where you can do whatever you want. You had laughed at that and said you do that almost weekly.

When you found out the following morning that Jack had been called away your mood instantly dropped and a few people picked up on it. Bishop had insisted you still go to the bar. Nick had been her back up, not that she needed it and when Gibbs agreed to go it wasn’t like you could just ditch.

Isn’t that what you were doing here?

Your phone vibrated again and you looked at the screen.

Gibbs:Forget the report, save me from Palmer. - Bishop texting, Gibbs words.

You laughed at that and finally shut down your computer. You got up to grab your bag when you heard the elevator ding. It was well past home time so you weren’t too sure who it would be. You prayed it wasn’t any of the team coming to drag you there.

Fortunately you were mistaken.

“Get your butt in my car now or I’m dragging you out in cuffs.” Jack stormed into the bullpen, her hands on her hips as she glared at you.

You ignored the threat (your mind already going places it shouldn’t) and gave her a once over. Tight black jeans, boots almost to her knees, creamy satin blouse resting just above- “Eyes up here.”

Thought I could do what I wanted on my birthday, shut up brain.

You smirked and met her eyes, slinging your bag over your shoulder. “Thought you were in San Diego.”

She sighed, impatiently watching you walk around your desk. “I was, caught a flight out this morning.” She grabbed your hand making you move quicker as you walked to the elevator.

You almost tripped over your feet with her urgency. “Case solved?”

“Not even close.”

You were confused, if the case wasn’t solved then why-

“You really thought I’d skip out on your birthday?” She squeezed your hand as you came to a stop at the elevators. Without letting go of you she leant over and pressed the button and the doors opened.

You stepped in and swung around, letting go of her hand in the process. “Jack you didn’t-”

She hit the button with a little too much force, she stared at you for a moment before, “Shut up. I got to the bar half an hour ago and Ellie informed me you were still at work while everyone was at the bar for your birthday?! Then she proceeded to tell me you didn’t even want to come, that you’d been down and out for the past two days… So I left and came here…” She continued when you didn’t say anything, “I flew across the country to be here and surprise you…” She turned more so her whole body was facing you and when you didn’t instantly reply she hot the Emergency stop button.

What were you meant to say? Thank you? She’d confessed an awful lot and you made a note to either thank or punch Bishop. You were still and shocked, no one’s ever done anything like that for your birthday or ever. You must’ve taken to long to reply as you watched the elevators lights go out.

“Hello?” She waved in front of your face and you turned a bit to face her. “You still in there?”

You shook your head, avoiding her eyes.

“Where did I lose you? Ellie’s confession or I flew across the country to spend your birthday with you…” Her lips quirked into a sly smirk when you blinked far too quickly at the last part. “Ah, the flying bit. A promise is a promise.”

“Pretty big promise when you’re on the other side of the country for work.”

She gave you a half shrug and laced your hands together, making you fully face her. “You’re worth it.”

You were about to counter it but she tugged you close, your noses bumping.

“I wouldn’t miss your birthday, you’re too important to m-”

You released one of her hands and wrapped yours around her neck, holding her there, playing with the hair at the base of her neck. “You’re important to me too, Jay.” You breathed her in. She was so close, her lips ghosted over yours, her eyes almost black and you closed your eyes as you closed the gap, “You came all this way, what’s stopping you now?” You asked, blindly nudging your nose with her’s.

“Nothing.” She breathed and kissed you.

You feel her hand gripping your shirt, her thumb rubbing circles over your skin, she yanked you closer. You smirked as your bodies collided and her lips moved over yours. Your lips moves in sync, her tongue coming out to dance with yours as she walks you back and you hit the wall causing a moan to escape. You feel her hand slip under your shirt, roaming your skin as you pushed you further into the wall. The contact causing you to shiver and another moan to roll off your tongue.

You feel the growing need for air, it’s rivaled with the growing ache between your legs but you don’t stop, your hand on the back of her neck threading into her hair. You give her a tug and getting another moan in return before she pulls away. You both take a second to catch your breath before she attacks your lips again with a smirk.

The was a soft hum coming from your pocket, you felt the vibration first but ignored it for a second before Jack groaned and stepped back. You hit your head on the wall with a sigh as you pick up the call. Jack however takes the opportunity and the free skin she sees to place kisses on your neck.

Swiping across the screen when you saw Bishops number, closing your eyes at Jack’s touch. “Stop kissing in the elevator and come get drunk with us. Gibbs is threatening to leave if you don’t come now.”

“Is that meant to be an incentive or…” You hold in a moan as Jack nips and sucks just below the ear.

“Or you could finish that report I said you could finish later.” He shouted above the noise of the bar.

“On my way boss.” The phone hung up and you let out a soft moan as her lips leave your skin. “Wait how did they know we were in here?”

Jack leaned back and flicked the elevator back on and placing a kiss to your lips before, “Tim probably checked the security cameras from his phone again.”

You groaned, leaning against the wall again as you watched the lift numbers go down.

“You don’t have to go to the bar if you don’t want to, it’s your birthday. You can do whatever you want…” She smirked, pulling you close and laughed as you kissed her neck hinting towards something else. “I have a rule, dinner first.” Her hum said otherwise.

“What about a drink instead?” You leant back at the ding and the doors opened.

“I could be persuaded.” She moans as you pull her back in for a heart pounding, toe curling kiss. Her little moans only spurring you on. With her hand at your waist you felt her push slightly, getting the hint you stepped back. “Bar.” She whispered, everything telling you that’s the last place either of you wanted to go but your friends were waiting.

Taking the hint you walk out of the elevator and the building.

The bar wasn’t as bad as you thought it would be. Being surrounded by your close friends and a consistent flow of alcohol was helping lighten your mood from earlier. Plus Jack being at your side and always touching you was also helping.

Gibbs and Ducky were back at the bar buying the next round and final one according to Gibbs. You watched from the booth as Jack whipped Nick’s ass at pool.

“How’d the makeout session in the elevator go?” Ellie couldn’t hold out any longer. It had been almost two hours since you and Jack arrived hand in hand and Bishops grin lit up the dim bar.

You shook your head and smirked at Palmer’s cheeks turning red. “Pretty good, thanks.”

“You’re welcome.”

“I think Doctor Mallard needs a hand with drinks.” Was his excuse and slid out of the booth.

You laughed as you watched him walk up to a drunk Gibbs who thought he would have five minutes away from the young doctor. Then your eyes shot to the pool table as you watched Jack lean over the table to take a shot.

“Hey.” Gibbs groused as he caught you gaze.

You rolled your eyes but accepted the offered drink.

“My birthday, I can look where I wanna look.” You definitely were drunk. That was no excuse but it was the one your brain reasoned with.

“She’s coming home with me anyways.” Jack winked at you, grabbing her tumbler from Ducky’s tray of drinks.

“Yeah! I’m going home- wait what?!” The words clicking over in your brain.

“Thought that’s -”

“Please. I don’t need to know.” Ducky held up his hand.

Nick wiggled his eyebrows. “I do.”

You hopped up, wobbling on your feet and landed in Jack’s steady arms. “Thanks.”

“You’re welcome. I’m not letting you go home by yourself tonight… You’re far too drunk, so I thought we could just go home together…” She whispered into your ear.

You just nodded and she wrapped her arm around your waist walking you a few steps to the pool table.

“You giving her your shot, Jack?” Nick scoffed, placing his beer down before walking back up to the table.

She smirked and handed you the cue. You surveyed the table, she was in the lead by two so there wasn’t much pressure to make a big move. Walking around once you found your target, you may be drunk but you knew how to play pool. You stumbled a bit to play along to Nick’s cockiness but everyone else saw through it. Bending over slightly to aim up your cue, sliding it back and forth between your fingers to get the feel and line it up, Jack was walking slowly around the table and came up beside you.

“Don’t.” You warned and she stayed still. You took one more slide through your fingers and hit the white, it connected with your target and sunk it. You stepped to the side, nudging Jack with your hip and she laughed. You lined up your next ball and smack. It rebounded off the pocket, stopping along the edge. You turned to look at Jack who had the most false looking innocent face you’d ever seen. “I could’ve sunk that.”

“I know but your ass looked so inviting and Nick needed a helping hand.” She winked over at Nick who was still in shock. “Think you failed to mention to him how good you are at pool.”

“Didn’t fail to mention anything. He just assumed because I’m almost wasted that my pool skills would be wasted too.”

Jack took the cue back off you and leaned in to press her lips to yours. “We need to play pool more often.”

“I prefer darts.”

“Okay, okay. Can we finish this game and leave before you two make out on the table.” You rolled your eyes at his tone.

Then Jack beat Nick within a few minutes and he didn’t want a rematch, much to everyone’s amusement.

“This ones on me my dear.” Ducky placed a hand on your shoulder and a drink on the table in front.

You smiled at the older man. “Thank you Doctor.” Taking a sip of the new drink, it wasn’t one you’d tasted before. “What is it?”

He chuckled and took a seat beside you. “An old favourite of my mother’s, she mixed it herself. She had excellent taste in alcohol, the same could not be said for her taste in food or men.”

You laughed, taking another sip of the mystery drink. He flowed into a story of his mother one time being caught coming home from a date when he was home inbetween shifts at a hospital he was working at at the time.

“She was a very sort after woman in her day. Sometimes I felt like the parent in the early years. However there was one thing she told me after a time I caught her sneaking out again.” He paused, making sure you were paying attention as your eyes had begun to wonder to other places. “When I questioned why, she said 'time passes whether you want it to or not, Donald…Use it to do things that bring you joy.” He let that sink in for a moment.

Your eyes automatically finding Jack’s. She smiled at you and quirked a brow as your eyes began to water. You smiled, shaking your head. “Thank you Ducky.” You smiled at him, his hand finding yours and squeezing it.

“My pleasure. On that wonderful note. I better be going. Breena made me promise to bring Me Palmer home in reasonable shape and it looks like Nicholas isn’t the best wingman.”

You looked over to see Nick topping up Jimmy’s half glass of beer. “Good night.” You gave his hand one last squeeze before he got up and left. Jimmy gave you a wobbly smile as Ducky guided him out of the bar. There was a movement beside you but you didn’t turn, knowing who had taken up Ducky’s seat before they spoke.

“You ok, kid?” Gibbs slipped his hand along the back of your chair and took a swig of his beer.

You nodded, turning to see his concerned eyes. “Completely, now.” Your eyes passing over Gibbs shoulder to see Jack laughing with Kasie and Tim. “Wasn’t earlier then I got my act together, or someone did it for me.”

“Glad she did.” You both smirked, Gibbs turning to see Jack smiling back at you.

She winked when he turned away and you laughed. “Hope Jimmy wasn’t too annoying.”

Gibbs shrugged, sipping his beer. “Hearts in the right place.”

You smiled at his choice of words. “Just like yours.”

That got a smile to his lips. “Happy Birthday, Y/N.” You cheersed and went into easy silence watching the team around you.

It wasn’t long before Tim made his exit but not before giving you a hug and then Gibbs. You were watching Ellie and Nick play pool when Kasie got a call from her partner, then she went home.

“How are you feeling?” Jack leaned in close, her hand wrapping around your waist.

You rested your tired head on her shoulder and yawned.

“Want to go ?”

You justed nodded and she pulled you closer. “We are gonna hit the road.”

Ellie and Nick both smiled at you two. “Take care of her.” Ellie nodded to you.

“Night Birthday Girl.” Nick winked and you laughed.

“Beat his butt, Ell.” You lifted your head and took Jack’s hand.

The bar was coming to a close, you said goodbye to all the staff as you made your exit and Jack pulled you back into close when you were outside. The chill air waking you up.

“Glad you came out?”

“Glad I get to go home with the hottest girl in the bar.” You grinned and she laughed, throwing her head back.

“Well I did have a few drinks, so Ub-”

You stepped in close, your nose brushing over hers. “So that rule…”

She ghosted over your lips, her breathe warming yours. “You broke it the moment we kissed.”

You smirked, capturing her lips, pulling her in by the waist, her hands cupping your cheeks, holding you there. She broke apart and placed little pecks on your lips and nose. “Your place then?”

“Whatever the birthday girl wants.”

You hummed, “I definitely like the sound of that.”

She laughed, pulling you back in for another brain melting kiss and you couldn’t wipe the smile off your face. This really was the best birthday gift ever.

… .

Not gonna lie. Forgot about this one

A/N: Something quick and sweet before the weekend ahead. I saw a prompt for smiling and well we all know whose smile I love. So here’s something sweet to go along with it.

Happy Easter! If you celebrate it for what it was originally for or if you just love chocolate and time with loved ones or not at all. I hope you enjoy this and have a wonderful Weekend!

Sum: Her smile, a morning sleep in and a sweet surprise.

There was something about her smile. It truly lit up your morning, day, night whenever you saw it. The thought and vision even gave you butterflies.

“What have you done?” She smiled up at you, blinking awake when the bed dipped beside her.

You chuckled, handing her a steaming cup of coffee when she reached for your hands. “What makes you-”

She took the coffee and brought it to her lips, inhaling the aroma and steam. “Please, the only other time’s you are out of bed before me are for work or you’ve done something.” The coffee passed her lips and her smile only got wider. “What did you put in this, it’s delicious.”

You leant further onto the bed, your hand searching the covers for her. She hummed when you touched her hip through the blanket, you lips closing in on hers. “Chocolate.”

She kissed you good morning with the sweet taste of coffee and sugar. The smile against your lips almost a sweet as her. “There better be more where that came from.”

“Well once you finish your coffee, come and see.”

She was intrigued, kissing you again before pulling back the covers and nudging you to move. Her curiosity made it hard to surprise her but this morning you had succeeded. “Is this why you plied me with wine last night?”

“Oh please, you kept demanding me refill your glass.” Kissing her cheek as she passed you on her way out of the bedroom, giving you a good view of-

“Hey!” She caught you staring,

“Put some shorts on then.”

She laughed leaving your bedroom, “We both know that won’t help.”

She was right. You followed her out and almost bumped into her outside the door. “Here.”

“You didn’t have to.”

“Jacq, there’s a lot of things I don’t have to but this, I wanted to do this.”

She handed you her empty cup of coffee and grabbed the small, fluffy Easter basket out of your hand. In front of her, you’d placed Easter eggs in a path around your house. They were ranging in sizes and lead a path for her to follow. You got out your phone and recorded her picking them up and looking at you now and then with a warm loving smile. When she reached the end of the path she closed the small gap between you and gave you a kiss that expressed how she felt.

“You aren’t done.” You mumbled against her lips and she pulled back with a questioning look.

“What? My basket is full.” It wasn’t a big basket but it was full to the brim with mini eggs, hollow eggs but one thing was missing.

“Look where you last found an egg.” You eyes looking over to the lounge room where she found the last egg on the coffee table.

She spun around, her eyes landing on the final chocolate. “What?!” She turned back around to you.

You had moved in that moment she was distracted and knelt down on one knee. She picked up the stuffed rabbit with a ribbon around it’s neck, a ring dangling from it. Her face shone, a smile beaming from cheek to cheek and a tear rolling down.

“Jacqueline Sloane will you do me the sweetest most truly wonderful thing in the world so much so that I’ve forgotten all the words I had memorised and do me the honour of becoming mine for now and forever?”

She dropped her basket, the chocolate forgotten and took the ring from the toy and handed it to you.

“Is that a-?” Her lips confirmed the answer before the question was finished, on her knees in front of you crying as you slipped the ring on her finger.

“Yes.” Her voice was husky, soft and firm.

“Not just because I gave you chocolate to last a month?” You joked as you wiped tears from her perfect cheeks.

She laughed, “A month? Try a week baby.”

You kissed again, both smiling and hoped you’d never stop.

Chapter Two

The offer comes a week or so later. You’ve been headhunted a couple of times since you started working at NCIS 5 years ago, but you’ve always turned them down without a second thought. However, when the call comes through this time you listen to the DOD agent’s whole offer and agree to think about it. The second the call ends guilt churns through your stomach as you think over what it would mean to actually leave NCIS.
