#jaehyun imagine

“do you have any plans for new years?” you ask jaehyun, pushing around the leftover lettuce on your plate whilst you wait for his reply. the man hums around his fork, chewing quietly with seemingly no answer to give. you try again, “like a dinner or something?”

he huffs with a small smile, holding the silver between his fingers delicately as he gazes at you, eyes empty. “why do you ask?”

why won’t he just answer, you think. a frustrated sigh is all it takes for jaehyun to let it go, chuckling out that he doesn’t have anything planned this new years other than dropping by johnnys house party for a few hours.

“ah, if that’s the case then don’t worry,” you mumble. there’s no more dressing to coat the salad in but you find yourself shoving leaves into your mouth nonetheless, feeling somewhat occupied now.

“did you have something in mind for us?” jaehyun eggs you on, placing his fork down completely now with a soft tap of his plate. he goes to pick up his wine glass but makes no move to take a drink, swirling his wrist around as he waits for your response.

“i mean,” you mumble, slightly embarrassed, “the fireworks are going off this year and i thought it’d be fun to go see them.”

silence falls over the two of you, a warmth spreading through your cheeks that can’t be blamed on the restaurants abnormally high heating. jaehyun’s leg, clad in black dress pants, nudges against yours, ankles now pressed against one another. his hand makes move too, the right still holding that wine glass and the left going to twiddle with the dainty rings sat upon your fingers.

bluntly, he teases, “are you trying to get a new years kiss?”

you’re sure he could probably feel the slight tense of your muscles through just his fingers, the embarrassment running off of you palpable. you stutter out in denial, becoming increasingly more shy as he holds back a laugh at your panic.

“id be happy to see the fireworks with you,” he interrupts, smiling softly to calm you down. the promise of a kiss is left unsaid.
