The carving is similar to the one found inside the jain temples of Dilwara, Kumbhariya & Ranakpur.
The story of the blind men and the elephant traces itself across Jain, Buddhist, and Hindu sources, painting a portrait of the various interpretations of reality that emerge from missing the forest for its trees.
Extremists tend to completely misread the intentions of an ideology, or to concentrate on specific details while ignoring other parts that contradict their interpretation. It’s not always true (although presumably it sometimes is) to say that extremists are the “one true interpretation” of an ideology.
Furthermore, it is not the job of people who believe in the mainstream interpretation of an ideology to police the fringes. Although maybe as an atheist, this opinion is self-serving.
