Hey Jemlings! Sorry it’s been quiet on the Jemzine front since our donation was made. I (Mod JEMily) needed some time to think.
Let me first start by saying Jemzine is, without a shadow of a doubt, the highlight of my year, and overall my most proudest achievement during my tenure in the Jem fandom. Every year, without fail, this little group of passion fans comes together to make this amazing zine possible, and help celebrate the franchise we all know and love. The fact that we CAN do this every year, is mind-blowing to say the least, when most fandoms can only do one! The fact this zine is something both fans AND creators look forward to every year is…well it makes me misty-eyed to say the least.
Jemzine, and everyone who has contributed, is so important to me, and I always want to give it my all each year. However I have come to the conclusion that, with a heavy heart, I must announce Jemzine will be shelved for this upcoming yearly cycle.
It’s not cancelled! Please don’t think that. It’s more a hiatus than anything.
As I said above, Jemzine has been a yearly zine with three issues under its belt currently. It typically runs from October to March, which is about 6 months of production, with an additional 1 or 2 months for sales them the donation. However I usually work longer than that, since I prepare content in advance and set it up. So my personal production cycle starts sooner and ends later than everyone else. But I’m not complaining! Far from it, but given it’s been more or less 4 continuous years of work it’s lead to some burnout.
I’m not sure if it was obvious if you worked with me on it, but for this past Jemzine (The Jem Jam) I started to feel really burnt out given some issues behind the scenes of it, as well as issues with another unrelated zine that I was working on with a friend that I had to take over lest it fail to be released. I hope it wasn’t obvious, but if you were in the zine and noticed it…was because of those reasons, to paraphrase at least.
I don’t want to disappoint anyone working on Jemzine if I can’t give it my all. You all deserve that much. So I believe taking a break this year will help with that.
But I still have some ideas to celebrate Jem! I actually have an interest check here with some ideas on what to do. Please fill it out if you so inclined.
On a final note, I hope you can all understand where I’m coming from, Jemzine is and always will be, very important to me as a project I do with fellow fans. It, as well as any creator, buyer, and supporter, have made it what it is today.
So, thank you. <3 And see you in 2022 for Jemzine #4~!

As you may not of known, on February 14th, 2021 Sir Ari Gold passed away after a long battle with leukemia. He is known to JEM fans as the singing voice for Ba Nee with her song “A Father Should Be” as well as being a frequent honored guest to Jemcon. As Jemzine #3 is centered around the beloved music of the cartoon, we felt it would be perfect to dedicate this issue in his memory.
He was a proud gay Jewish man and the world is darker without him.
Rest in peace Sir Ari Gold. Thank you for giving Ba Nee her song.

I’m a 20 year old artist going to SCAD for a BFA in Illustration! I like money and Hatsune Miku figurines and my mom making me watch JEM when I was a kid probably made me queer!
Favorite JEM Band & Why?
I’ve really grown to like The Misfits a lot recently, as a matter of just really liking their rougher style a lot more as well as playing around with the complexity of their characters as antagonists.
What do you love best about their music?
I really like how screechy and emotive they’re allowed to be compared to the other bands in the show. I think it’s just very fun and cool how the background vocals can sound like harmonizing banshee shrieks and the tone is nearly always antagonistic and snide, makes me feel very powerful!!!

Why do they call it “Getty Images”? (Why) Because you getty the images!

Favorite JEM Band & Why?
Tough choice but I love The Holograms! They’re a close-knit group of sister who stick together even when things get tough. They also have Synergy, Jem has her secret identity, which gives their story such an interesting twist. Plus they’re fashion GOALS!
What do you love best about their music?
I’m a fan of very upbeat music, especially 80s music! That’s what I listen to when working on my art. The Holograms’ music reminds me a lot of the type of playlists I put together.

G’day here is a collection of Jem and the Holograms items I’ve been working on.
I’ve said it before, it was originally intended to be a multipart set released back in December but kept getting busy with other commitments.
The goal is, with setting up a download page I can add more to it whenever I work on more Jem themed Items, which I will be and they will be grouped together for ease.
