Hey Jemlings! Sorry it’s been quiet on the Jemzine front since our donation was made. I (Mod JEMily) needed some time to think.
Let me first start by saying Jemzine is, without a shadow of a doubt, the highlight of my year, and overall my most proudest achievement during my tenure in the Jem fandom. Every year, without fail, this little group of passion fans comes together to make this amazing zine possible, and help celebrate the franchise we all know and love. The fact that we CAN do this every year, is mind-blowing to say the least, when most fandoms can only do one! The fact this zine is something both fans AND creators look forward to every year is…well it makes me misty-eyed to say the least.
Jemzine, and everyone who has contributed, is so important to me, and I always want to give it my all each year. However I have come to the conclusion that, with a heavy heart, I must announce Jemzine will be shelved for this upcoming yearly cycle.
It’s not cancelled! Please don’t think that. It’s more a hiatus than anything.
As I said above, Jemzine has been a yearly zine with three issues under its belt currently. It typically runs from October to March, which is about 6 months of production, with an additional 1 or 2 months for sales them the donation. However I usually work longer than that, since I prepare content in advance and set it up. So my personal production cycle starts sooner and ends later than everyone else. But I’m not complaining! Far from it, but given it’s been more or less 4 continuous years of work it’s lead to some burnout.
I’m not sure if it was obvious if you worked with me on it, but for this past Jemzine (The Jem Jam) I started to feel really burnt out given some issues behind the scenes of it, as well as issues with another unrelated zine that I was working on with a friend that I had to take over lest it fail to be released. I hope it wasn’t obvious, but if you were in the zine and noticed it…was because of those reasons, to paraphrase at least.
I don’t want to disappoint anyone working on Jemzine if I can’t give it my all. You all deserve that much. So I believe taking a break this year will help with that.
But I still have some ideas to celebrate Jem! I actually have an interest check here with some ideas on what to do. Please fill it out if you so inclined.
On a final note, I hope you can all understand where I’m coming from, Jemzine is and always will be, very important to me as a project I do with fellow fans. It, as well as any creator, buyer, and supporter, have made it what it is today.
So, thank you. <3 And see you in 2022 for Jemzine #4~!

Apologies for the delay in posting, but I’m proud to share that with everyone’s donations we raised a total of $490 for Mazzoni Center! As I do every year, I will be covering fees so the entire amount can be donated.

My second piece for the Jem and the Holograms Fanzine: Villain Fashion edition. This one is part of the pinup-themed bonus zine Cool Trash: Evil is HOT.

I like this one; it’s very summery and fun, if I do say so myself.

My submission for The Villain Fashion Book: A Jem Fanzine, featuring Minx and Rapture, my favorite Stingers~ (sorry Riot).
With this one, I wanted to do a vintage psychic inspired “shoot”– the scale of Rapture’s grifting will always crack me up, and made for a perfect theme. The moxie it takes to pose as an Oracle and commit to defrauding a small nation is one for the books, so this idea features Rapture as a melodramatic pseudo-psychic all about her coin, with Minx as the customer. Bemused, fly, and self-absorbed as usual, rather than being engaged, Minx is checking her timepiece to figure out how long she’s expected to go along with this charade.

All the way back in August, 24 artists came together to work on this Jem 35th Anniversary Collab to celebrate our beloved series. Each artist created their own unique take on a single character in order to create a beautiful illustration filled to the brim with creativity and love for the franchise that began so many years ago.
To Christy Marx for starting it all, to the voice actors and singers that made the characters who they were, to the musicians that gave Jem and her friends her voice, to the writers that gave us many adventures, to the cast and crew behind the comic and the movie for introducing new people to the series and to you, the fans who kept the spirit of Jem alive even after all this time…thank you.
From the bottom of my heart, and from every fan who dedicated their time and talent to this celebration, we want to wish a truly, truly, TRULY outrageous 35th birthday to Jem. Here’s to 35 more.

At long last, I can post my painting for the Jem Villain Fashion Book! Outrageous! ⚡️ This is Roxy of The Misfits (their songs are better!) in a Moi-même-Moitié inspired outfit with a hint of glam rock princess. I feel so proud of those crazy ringlets in her pigtails- they’re the epitome of Old-School Gothic Lolita hairstyles and were so worth the effort I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed creating it! #jem#jemfanzine

The loss of Patricia Alice Albrecht is still being felt now, and will be felt for many years to come. Her iconic role as the voice of Pizzazz is one of the reasons Jem is such a beloved series to this very day.
All of us from the contributors to the staff wanted to honor her and how much “attitude” she’s brought to thousands of people, young and old, around the globe over the years by dedicating The Villain Fashion Book to her.
More information about “Freedom for Life International” the charity Patricia supported found here. “Freedom for Life International” is a non-profit organization that supports victims and survivors of human trafficking around the world. Their goal is to educate, raise awareness, support shelters, and overall make sure every single person knows their rights, their worth, and have a future.
We want to personally thank her long-time friend Samantha Newark for allowing us to use one of her many beautiful art pieces for this page, and want to also thank creators: Alice Fiddle, Chibi Michaela, Erika Kendall, Fourhand13, Kacey Gambrell, Lynndy Lee, Micah, and Sarina Sherzai for gifting us the illustrations of the Queen of Rock and Roll herself. And last, but certainly not least: Emma Kate Ramsey for providing both a Pizzazz illustration and the lovely Patricia sketch that truly captured her.
Here’s the full version of my piece, as seen on the back cover of the magazine held by Patricia Albrecht. Her voice acting as Pizzazz inspired this drawing, full of vibrant personality and larger than life!
