Today there were some interviews with the cast and directors of The Sandman for Netflix!

Jenna Coleman looks amazing in that suit! Finally, we see her getting involved with the show!
Entertainment Weekly has released an interview with Tom Sturridge and Neil Gaiman about the upcoming show The Sandman.
In the article, it is said that
the show’s premiere on Netflix [will be] this summer
This is a very unexpected claim. In February, IGN claimed that it would be released on June 3rd. But Neil Gaiman quickly responded saying that he wasn’t aware of that date, and that it seemed unlikely. In the following months, there was a lot of speculation about when it would come out, but the supposed date was shifted further and further back, well into autumn. This was also supported by the lack of promotion for the show so far.
So this statement is very surprising, as it won’t be long until summer, and there has still not been any announcement of a release date. This interview is the first bit of promotion for the show in more than half a year. But so far, unlike earlier this year when IGN mentioned the June 3rd release date, Neil Gaiman has not disputed that claim.
Perhaps they will stretch the definition of what “summer” means, but it currently seems possible that it could be released in August.
Also, interestingly, this interview marks the first occasion that Jenna Coleman’s character, Johanna Constantine is ever mentioned in the offical promotion for the show:

I would like to highlight two particular points:
In The Sandman comics, John Constantine has a girlfriend known as Rachel. As Jenna’s Johanna Constantine is sort of standing in for that role, because HBO has the rights to John Constantine, so Netflix show couldn’t use him in The Sandman, the question arose as to whether Rachel would instead be in a relationship with Johanna.
Eleanor Fanyinka has already been cast as Rachel for The Sandman
When a fan asked Neil Gaiman about this, he replied with “Well spotted”, confirming this.
So we will see Jenna in another LGBT role! Previous LGBT roles she has played include Jasmine Thomas in Emmerdale, Clara Oswald (and her echoes) in Doctor Who, and Pippa Winton in the audiobook Pressures, Residential (https://youtu.be/VSpc4H-z40A)
Neil Gaiman has also confirmed that we will see Jenna Coleman playing two versions of Johanna Constantine; one in the modern-day, and one in the late 18th Century (just like the original Johanna Constantine in the comics)
So far, we have only seen Jenna as the modern day Johanna. The question remains as to whether she will be wearing a blonde wig for the 18th Century Johanna.
One of my favourite parts of the Sandman panel for Netflix’ Geeked Week, was when Allan Heinberg said that he and Neil Gaiman were talking about Jenna Coleman playing the part of Johanna Constantine from the very beginning because they are huge fans of her!
