30 years ago, Jim Lee, Scott Williams and Whilce Portacio were on the road for The Mighty Mutant Tour. The creators were riding high following the success of Mutant Genesis and the record-shattering sales of X-Men #1, so the level of interest from fans was extraordinary.
1991 was a remarkable and transformative year for the X-Men franchise, but it was really just the beginning. In 1992, Marvel went on to launch the Jim Lee’s X-Men Trading Cards from Impel, the X-Men: The Arcade Game from Konami and the X-Men: The Animated Series cartoon from Fox.
1992 was also the year in which Marvel’s biggest names, including Jim Lee, Erik Larsen, Rob Liefeld and Todd McFarlane, left the House of Ideas to form Image Comics. I had a lot of fun exploring the 30th anniversary of Mutant Genesis in 2021 and I’m looking forward to continuing that theme in 2022.
