Ohno, my Tumblr page has fallen into obscurity, but not on purpose! My life has got a new twist; I have officially become a photographer, visual artist and visual content creator. In short; from now on I am a freelancer artist.
I had so much to arrange, the rules about working as an artist here in Belgium are a real mess. Yet I am grateful for all the protection and support the Belgian artist receives from the state, the sign that culture is still of enormous value during all the chaos in our small country! But still … I have walked along to the largest climate march in our country, I have seen the right-wing politicians go up enormously and thus became a true saboteur in a greener future for our country. And then the sad story about the vote of my country against the global compact for migration brought me to a mental state of sadness and disappointment.
Because of all these situations, I increasingly get the feeling to leave this country, to go into the wide world and to capture the magical nature on the other side of the world. Therefore, dear followers, can you give me ideas where I can find some magical forests that are a must-see place? Perhaps in your home town, or in your country, or maybe a place you’ve been to that is really worth it?
“Along the river The Scheldt in the Flemish Ardennes in Belgium, there are many ‘secret’ spots where Mother Nature has full control on the landscape. One of these places is the nature reserve The Rijtmeersen. For more than a year I wandered through the wild forests and open spaces of the nature reserve and I took about 15 000 images over a timeframe of one year. An enormous archive that expand more and more through the months, because my daily and if that isn’t possible, weekly walk in Nature with my camera is my must-do meditation. My archive is like a huge seed bank, where I can consult and use photos like they are seeds, to plant them in my hanging gardens. It reminds me of the zen-gardens I used to see all time when I was young, with sand and a miniature rake you could miniature garden and make yourself at peace again, all this while Buddha was smiling at you secretly. “
I adopted a white dog named Leos and took him to the forest for the first time in his life and he enjoyed it so much! Now I take him with me to wherever I go. I have a new friend, who has the same love for discovering nature as I have. And of course my dear sister whom I like to capture on photo, my muse. I’ve been less active on tumblr lately, because I am working on my master thesis and project in the visual arts. At the moment it is a busy time but I keep you all up to date with content from my archives, images that I still find worth to show. In a month I will upload a new stream of photos, I am very enthusiastic about the work that I have made now and can not wait to show it. There will be an exhibition from June 22 to June 26 in Ghent, Belgium, called The hanging gardens of Ornamentopia. If you are in the area, give a signal and I’ll be happy to receive you personally!
