Psyche Opening the Door into Cupid’s Garden (1904), by J.W. Waterhouse
One year after “Psyche Opening the Golden Box”, Waterhouse paints Psyche again and he chose to paint the same woman wearing the same clothes. Here she is shown entering a secret garden – one of the soul and the heart - where she will meet Cupid. Cupid was given the task to make her fall in love with a monster, but after scratching himself to his own arrow, he immediately falls in love with the beautiful Psyche. He does however not want her to see his face in daylight so that is why they meet and make love only in the darkness of night.
The story was retold by Apuleius, a Numidian author living in the Roman Empire, but scenes where already illustrated on much older Greek vases. Many painters have painted Psyche and Cupid naked together in bed, but Waterhouse honours the original meaning by leaving Cupid invisible. It took him nevertheless four years to sell this painting.

I’ve been less active on tumblr lately, because I am working on my master thesis and project in the visual arts. At the moment it is a busy time but I keep you all up to date with content from my archives, images that I still find worth to show. In a month I will upload a new stream of photos, I am very enthusiastic about the work that I have made now and can not wait to show it. There will be an exhibition from June 22 to June 26 in Ghent, Belgium, called The hanging gardens of Ornamentopia. If you are in the area, give a signal and I’ll be happy to receive you personally!

“Good morning. On Friday evening when you arrive home you will shower, put on one of my button up shirts and a pair of long socks and, Mother Nature permitting, nothing else. You will have the collar on the bed, ready for your Master to Adorn you with it.

Took me two full days to reply, with a question. Good thing I re-read His note because: long socks.
Cohabitation has done funny things to O/our intimacy. In many respects it has brought U/us closer; closer to being comfortable and a little less formal but not casual or taking each other for granted. In other ways, I feel as unsure of myself and awkward in my desires, at a loss knowing what He wants from me. Clumsy, nerdy still; as I was the first time W/we were unbuttoned, naked together. Regardless of what happens it’s always fun and exciting, and even if nothing happens it’s all good. I just love being around Him.
Time to go find some long socks before He comes home. Enjoy your evening.
