Katharine Hepburn is photographed here by one of her favorite photographers, Len Tavares, in 1981 - Kate met Len Tavares through her brother Dick when she went to see one of Dick’s plays being performed and became fast friends with him.⁣

“She became enthralled with my son because of his Portuguese heritage,” recalled Mrs. Tavares. “She sat with him for an hour, asking him about ethnic questions.” Kate loved the story about Spencer Tracy learning to do a Portuguese accent for her favorite film of his CAPTAINS COURAGEOUS (1937) which made Mr. Tavares’ heritage an obvious point of fascination for her personally. ⁣⁣
