1. When and how did you start to become interested in photography?
I started to be seriously interested in photography about 25 years ago. Initially, the reason was trivial. As a graphic designer, I needed photos to create projects. However, it often turned out that I was not able to find the ones I needed for work. That’s why I decided to take them on my own. Over time, this pragmatic need turned into a passion.
2. How would you describe your photography?
First of all, my photography is very diverse. It is characterized by well-thought frames and attention to detail. It is a record of everything that I myself consider beautiful and worth showing.
3. Is there something you learned during your photographic journey that you would have loved to know when you were just starting out?
It was only after some time that I understood that when going out with the camera, you should not assume or expect anything. You have to be completely open and let yourself be carried away by intuition. This approach avoids frustration or disappointment, while remaining as creative as possible. You have to react to what the moment brings. I’d like to have known that from the start…
4. What would you say is your favourite genre of photography and why?
I don’t really have one favorite genre. I really like both street and landscape photography. I love architecture, perhaps because its effects can be very graphic and abstract at the same time. And I, as I have already mentioned, have been involved in graphic design for years. Additionally, it is the fascination with photos with a long exposure time. I do not avoid portraits as well.
5. What inspires you?
What inspires me the most is the awareness that thanks to photography we can travel in time! It’s beautiful and amazing.
6. If you’d have to describe yourself as a photographer in one sentence, what would that sentence be?
I’ll answer with a quote: „The single most important component of a camera is the twelve inches behind it!“ Ansel Adams.

Janek has a great variety. Not only can you find street photography, and architecture but also landscapes, and portraits.
He has a fantastic feeling for when to use black and white and when to rather use punchy colours. His compositions are always on point, and his photos show us his outstanding sense of balance. They are filled with details but are never overloaded.
In his architecture and urban photography I love the play with forms and lines, and all the little details which makes them special.His street photography is fantastic. Janek has a great talent to capture scenery that really tell stories, unique moments frozen in time.
I especially love his portraits. The all have a real nice genuineness, which communicates that the models felt comfortable.
Looking through Janek’s archive was very inspiring and it’s a blog really worth seeing.
