Some backstory for ichiruki korean period drama au (aka sageuk au)

- before ichigo and rukia became sejaandsejabin (korean titles for the crown prince and his wife) once upon a time the crown prince of the country was kaien. There was a nationwide selection of women to be his bride and Rukia was among the final three selected, but ultimately lost to Miyako. Rukia didn’t mind this so much (she does harbour a crush on kaien as in canon but she became friends with miyako over the selection period and wishes them the best), and she continues to frequent the palace as miyako’s friend and confidante.

-  Final three sejabin contestants have a proviso that they are forbidden to marry (not historically accurate but a popular period drama trope in Korea so we’ll roll with it), and so Byakuya gets very pissed off that his little sister is essentially a widow now. 

- With some egging on from Aizen and Co, byakuya stages a coup. Rukia finds out about it and goes to warn miyako and kaien but is a fraction late, and she and Miyako are caught in the midst of a full-scale military takeover.

-  Rukia takes Miyako’s cloak and acts as a decoy- unfortunately, kaien mistakes her for miyako as well and jumps in front of arrows to save her, then dies in rukia’s arms. Miyako is also found dead. The coup succeeds, Aizen &co place isshin on the throne as a placeholder, ichigo becomes crown prince by default and byakuya can finally ensure his sister sits in the position she deserves: Sejabin, the next Queen of the nation.
