“Go away! Don’t touch me!” Bella wanted to scream as her husband came closer to the bed. Léon appeared calm, but it hurt him to be rejected by her in such fashion. He felt like a stranger, like an unwanted guest in his own house.
Léon watched Bella as she went to the burned room with a lamp in her hand. The girl comes here almost every night to explore some tiny corner and then (presumably because she is afraid of being caught) quickly leaves. No one except Bella dared to visit this part of the château in several years. She crossed the borders of his domain and now there is no way back for her.
“What is it?“ Léon said as Bella had suddenly stopped in the middle of the waltz. The prince let go of her hand. A few seconds they looked into each other’s eyes, the musicians continued to play. Léon seemed puzzled. The moment had passed, he planned to take off his mask when… All of a sudden, Bella kissed him on the lips, standing on tiptoe.
Armand put his hands together. “Wonderful news!“ “Yes, indeed,“ Léon looked down at Bella’s hands which she had on her still flat belly. The prince agreed to marry again to have an heir and now his young wife is pregnant after two months of the marriage. Several years ago he was in love with another woman… but he’d rather forget it. Bella was shining with happiness. She is carrying his child. Maybe that will make some piece of Léon’s heart belong to her?
