There’s a website where you can learn ASL (American Sign Language) on your own, free and it’s a 31 Day program! The woman on there, her name is Rochelle Barlow, she runs the site and she actually is a homeschool teacher and teaches ASL. I am passing this on to some of you guys cause most of y’all on here is open-minded and curious and it is something important to learn.

I truly believe this site is helpful for some people who can not afford to going to ASL classes, or someone like me that just enjoys learning something new. This site will help with that. Once you sign up you will put in your email address and Rochelle sends you emails on tips on how to sign, gives you practice sheets, and gives you your weekly videos. And its all online. No need to paying for anything. (Unless if you want to she has something very different to this program)

IMO and yes, this site is really amazing and is important because you never know if someone who is deaf or HOH needs help, if you end up losing your hearing ability this is something you will at least have on the back of your head, and it is just like any other language and should be taught.

Here is a translation of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone in Sicilian by Cademia Siciliana. The translation is unofficial, so there are currently no real editions of the Harry Potter saga in Sicilian.

Cademia Siciliana is a non-profit organisation whose members are academics, linguists and researchers who aim to promote and regulate the Sicilian language and its use.

Listening comprehension is difficult in any language but with Norwegian it can be a real challenge when you add the seemingly endless number of dialects in. I’ve managed to make it my best skill, but only after I became obsessed with improving it. The main way I did was by using podcasts! They’re a great free resource that have helped me greatly over my two and a half years of learning this lovely language.

I thought I’d throw together a list of my favorites to share for anyone looking for something to listen to. The advice I give to anyone who is trying to improve their listening comprehension is to listen to something you enjoy and listen to the same episode more than once before continuing. Slow it down if you need to! It will be frustrating but it’s the only way to improve (I’ve found at least). I got into the groove of listening to something every day and now I rarely have problems understanding what my teachers and friends say to me - even if they speak in dialect.

For Beginners

Klar Tale
http://www.klartale.no/klartale-podcast
Basically a podcast version of the website. This is the only one I can really recommend to beginners that I’ve listened to.

This is in no way a masterlist - just some of the ones I’ve heard and enjoyed. Hope it can be helpful to someone!

I knew I’d forget something! Must add Kort Applaus (http://podcast.badeog.no/kortapplaus) to the list! A very funny sketch comedy podcast hosted by Kristin & Caroline :D

Also for beginners:

Norskpodden
https://podtail.com/en/podcast/norskpodden/
Podcast aimed at teaching beginners, these short podcasts cover various topics related to the Norwegian language and culture. Transcripts and exercises for each episode available on their website.

Norsklærer Karense
https://karense.podomatic.com/
Aimed at teaching immigrants learning Norwegian, made by the same lady who’s made hundreds of youtube videos dedicated to teaching Norwegian. Covers topics related to Norwegian culture as well as explaining more advanced vocab in context.

Hello Comrades!

So much preparation in all realms right now. Perhaps you’re in the midst of wrestling a tree or the wave of a burning idea.

My head has been buried in notebooks, research and preparation. A winter long residency at Butler University’s Jordan College of the Arts is drawing near.
