John Cage’s Words out of Joseph Beuys’ Hat, 2017. After Tristan Tzara, Manifesto on feeble love and bitter love, 1920.

To make a dadaist poem / Take a newspaper. / Take a pair of scissors. / Choose an article as long as you are planning to make your poem. / Cut out the article. / Then cut out each of the words that make up this article and put them in a bag. / Shake it gently. / Then take out the scraps one after the other in the order in which they left the bag. / Copy conscientiously. / The poem will be like you.

Règle du jeu is the result of my Carte blanche PMU prize in France 2017

Brotherus’s oeuvre has alternated between autobiographical to art historical approaches utilising iconic images from 19th to 20th-c. as well as inspiration from the Fluxus movement. By that she creates an equilibrium between the more objective conceptual thinking of art-making and its histories, combining it with the emotional and personal. - artsy

Fraenkel Gallery is pleased to announce the first exhibition in the newly renovated FraenkelLAB space: Home Improvements, curated by John Waters.

This group exhibition will encompass eclectic works in several mediums by Martin Creed, Moyra Davey, Vincent Fecteau, Paul Gabrielli, gelitin, Paul Lee, Tony Matelli, Doug Padgett, Karin Sander, Gedi Sibony, Lily van der Stokker, and George Stoll. John Waters describes the exhibition as “a celebration of the low-tech concept of ‘remodeling’. These twelve artists’ humble but surprisingly imperious paintings, sculptures, photographs and drawings will hopefully make any serious property owner want to throw caution to the wind, pack up their living space, and start over.”

Today is the very last day of Shadow Tender’s Indiegogo campaign. I am SO FULL of gratitude for everyone who has supported us so far, and excitement for the time of intense creation we are about to launch into!
If you like monsters, creatures, or amazing costumes, if you like dance, or circus arts, or martial arts, if you think people should meet themselves or others with more compassion, or if you think psychology, neuroscience, or alchemy are as interesting as I do, please consider donating or sharing our link (in my bio!). This is our LAST BIG PUSH, and every little bit counts!

What is the Jungian Shadow, anyway, and why is it relevant? Here is a short new video of Shadow Tender’s artistic director, Natasha Kolosowsky, explaining & contextualizing these things + some art and dancing.

You can learn more about Shadow Tender here: http://igg.me/at/shadowtender

In brief, it’s a performance and workshop series that asks how humans create and interact with the monstrous within ourselves and in others, and seeks to provide the tools and inspiration to meet our shadows with compassion rather than fear, shame, or rejection.  We’re examining these ideas through the lens of fantasy, theater, wearable sculpture, and movement, with inspiration ranging from neuroscience to alchemical philosophy. We’ve been invited to perform and teach at the World Stage Design festival this July in Taiwan, Taipei - one of the largest international performance design festivals in the world!  But we’ll need your help to get there!  We’re only about 26% of the way to our funding goal, and we only have a few days left of our crowdfunding campaign!

Enjoy and please feel free to share <3

I can’t imagine a project I would be more excited to work on right now. This is one of the largest projects I’ve ever tackled, and what I truly want my art to achieve: using the transformative magic of costumes and movement to help people understand more about themselves and even find the tools to interact more healthily with each other.

I’m working with some of the most talented artists and performers I know, but even as excited and determined as we are, we’re not going to be able to do this alone. Please take a moment to watch our video and check out our campaign. If you can contribute we’d be forever grateful, but you can help us succeed just by spreading the word. Do you know anyone who likes any of the things in that first sentence? Share this with them!

over the past few weeks, it has really felt like i have moved oceans, in order to absorb & birth multiple stories into/from my body, to seed them in the depths of the earth.

of all the projects i was creating/presenting/producing, my work in progress of 'é, in particular, was a life-changing, profound process.

i’d like to thank all the people & institutions that have supported me in this process: the @offtamtl (& it’s wonderful team); @karlitajem, Jérome Bérubé & @thisblindinglightbindsmestill for their faith, their vision, their magic; and the @canada.council for having generously funded the first phase of research/creation of this projet.

big thanks, of course, to my friends, loves and lovers for their daily support, & to the public, the wonderful public who witnessed this performance ritual

Back from where?

I don’t know really, but I was far out for a while.

Coming back here after so long feels almost peaceful in the face of actual life.

Now I know better than to interrupt a creative burst.

I am currently working on a new website, finally.

I have still a lot of work to share, I hope it’ll find its audience.

See you later

The Good Labor

Hello Comrades!

So much preparation in all realms right now. Perhaps you’re in the midst of wrestling a tree or the wave of a burning idea.

My head has been buried in notebooks, research and preparation. A winter long residency at Butler University’s Jordan College of the Arts is drawing near.

Q & A.

With that in mind, I’m asking for your participation in a bit of research here. It’s YOU and TIME sitting across a table, you have one chance, one question:

* If you had one question for TIME, what would it be? *

Submit Your Question for TIME { here }

I’m excited to hear your thinking on this.Click the yellow button above, email below or simply hit reply. Thank you!

Wishing you all the best with what you’re working on right now.

Sending goodness ~ Darla
