I’m excited to share with you all “Legacy”- the newest entry in my personal tribute to the timeless & marvelous “Avatar: The Last Airbender” and “The Legend of Korra” series! I finally found some free time this year to rewatch the series and then dive into reading the Dark Horse comics for the very first time ever. I am now all caught up and have a newfound affection for the lore, all thanks to the high talents of Mike DiMartino, Bryan Konietzko, and every other brilliant mind that has contributed to the Avatar series. A big thank you to each of them, as well as a big thanks to all of you for your continued support!
A little trip down memory lane. This is a small fight sequence I story boarded between Su and Kuvira. It’s short but packs a punch. Love the backstory here between these two as it added a ton to the stakes of this battle. I must admit I do miss staging these fights. One of the honors of my life was working on the Legend of Korra. This sequence was a big undertaking and everyone brought their A game. Had some Big after FX help from @squareheg for the opening shot and Korra getting blasted. As well as some clean up of my scribbles by Owen Sullivan. @mike_dante_d and @bryankonietzko asked that Zaheer not fly in a traditional superhero style. That he moved through the air a bit like it was water. This was my attempt at making that a reality. #legendofkorra #zaheer #korra

THE COMIC BOOK ELEMENTS OF AVATAR AND KORRA - San Diego Comic Con Panel
Hey Korra Nation! Today was the @darkhorsecomics Avatar and Korra Comic Con panel and it was amazing! Avatar fans packed the room to see Korra comic artist Irene Koh, creator @michaeldantedimartino and Korra voice actor Janet Varney discuss the upcoming Korra comic book, Turf Wars: Part One, and talk about their love of the series. Did you know that Turf Wars picks up immediately after the end of the TV series?
Check out some of the comic frames they showed during the panel, the illustrations are beautiful! You can preorder Turf Wars: Part One right now, or buy in comic shops on July 26 and bookstores Aug 8.
Fun fact: Michael used the voice actors as inspiration for writing Turf Wars, asking himself questions like “How would Janet say this?”
We also got to take a look at the Korra coloring book. Each page is filled with never-before-seen illustrations that let you fill the avatar world with color!
