Hey authors, illustrators, or anyone working on a creative project. I recently opened my book trailer/audiobook/voice over service and if you need someone to produce any of these please contact me at [email protected]! I have worked with clients like Candlewick, HarperCollins, KidLit TV and more and have been working on this service for 4+ years. Here’s what I work on:

- A book trailer for your picture books, novels or comics/webcomics.
- A voice over for your project.
- An audiobook for your picture books, novels or comics.

I use professional programs and have an in-home studio for the best quality work. We will discuss prices by email! Please share the news, especially if you have any friends who need something like this created for them. For more information visit: https://katyastecva.com

Thank you!

A Little Piece of Her (African Trilogy, #3)
A Little Piece of HerbyZidrou
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Wow. This little book tackles a very important topic that very few people actively discuss. Bringing awareness of FGM in a very direct way, discussing cultural differences, and being downright visually stunning, this graphic novel is a powerful little beast. I quickly grew attached to the characters, and it is devastating to know that many women go through a similar story as the main character, Antoinette, and her daughter Marie-Léontine. The audience is educated about the shocking process of FGM through the eyes of Yu Kiang, who is himself learning about the controversial tradition for the first time. Important, relevant, and gripping.

I received a digital copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Les Beaux Étés - Tome 1 - Cap au sud !
Les Beaux Étés - Tome 1 - Cap au sud !byZidrou
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Glorious Summers was a surprisingly attaching story. It showed the intimate ups and downs of the relationship between a mother and father – at a time when life just wears them thin and they question what it is they’d like to get out of life, and how they can achieve that. They take a hard look at their marriage, their family, and how some quality time on a family road trip could reconnect them all. I would love to read more character stories just like this one.

I received a digital ARC for the English edition of this graphic novel from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Herding Cats (Sarah's Scribbles, #3)
Herding CatsbySarah Andersen
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Once again, Sarah Andersen delivers a highly-relatable (too relatable) book for those with anxiety, those that like to create art, and those that just…ya know…are trying to navigate life. I would love to keep this book right next to Neil Gaiman’s “Make Good Art” for routine reading. THANK YOU FOR THIS, SARAH.

This weeks very late book of the week is Bryan Lee O'malley’s Lost at Sea.

It is a great book that lingers in the back of your mind like a pain you didnt know you had, but somehow you miss.

It was a great lecture, and it has so many Cats…

BOOK REVIEW: Nimona (2015) by Noelle Stevenson

I first became aware of Noelle Stevenson through Tumblr, about five years ago. At the time, she had gained an online following for the comics she drew about movies she’d watched (Thor, The Lord of the Rings, X-Men) and general fandom experiences, like this one. She was funny and relatable, but what kept me coming back were her comments on the depiction of female characters and general misogyny in the comics industry. For example, she drew this comic about her experiences with “self-appointed gatekeepers” who make many would-be comic readers feel unwelcome. Stevenson also started the Hawkey Initiative, where she pointed out the trend of unrealistic and sexist “strong female character” poses in superhero comics and suggested that they could be fixed by replacing the character with Hawkeye doing the same thing. She invited artists to send in their creations, and the results were both hilarious and deeply uncomfortable,

At twenty-five years old, Stevenson is now working as an industry professional, and in 2015 her popular web comicNimona was published by HarperTeen.

I’m very pleased to say that there is not a single boobs-and-butt panel to be found.

A graphic memoir for teens about the author’s efforts to overcome her social anxiety by learning improv comedy.

Alex has crippling social anxiety. All day long, she is trapped in a web of negative thoughts and paralyzing fear. To pull herself free of this endless cycle, Alex does something truly terrifying: she signs up for an improv comedy class. By forcing herself to play silly games and act out ridiculous scenes, Alex confronts the unbearable weight of embarrassment, makes new friends, rediscovers parts of herself that she’d hidden away, and ultimately faces her greatest fear by performing onstage for all to see.
