When the usually calm protector-character has been hurt, betrayed, and disappointed one too many times, and they attack their friend out of pure pain. They slam the friend down, screaming and crying all their bottled emotions out, maybe rough the friend up a little; and then collapse next to them, sobbing. The friend, horrified at the emotion they had no idea the protector had been bottling up, tries to comfort them. It may or may not work, because now, the protector doesn’t only feel pain and anger; they feel guilt too. And that guilt may be even harder for them to let go of than the initial pain.
