Y'all ever think about how Kabuto is just a shityy college kid? I remember when I first watched Naruto at 11 I was like “wow 19? So mature. So much life experience” when in reality here’s this cocky college freshman showing off card tricks to middle schoolers. Here he is trying to impress his dad who he’s always trying to make happy. Here he is having a mental breakdown when he’s supposed to be in his last semester. He’s only 23 when he decides to reanimate a bunch of dead bodies. It’s like he’s just got a new apartment with just a mattress on the floor, a shitty tv and barely any food in the fridge so he decides to adopt a bunch of fish to keep him company who all die in a week. I love Kabuto so much he’s just a shitty college kid with a lot of baggage and also a war criminal
red being ed’s symbolic color is so… god. he covers himself up with tough black leather, with his black beard. black is the color of ed’s armor, in the same way @weirdgirlcore pointed out that blue is stede’s. but his heart, which he keeps hidden away under all that impenetrable leather, is soft red silk. and we only see him visibly wearing red twice.
first, is alone on the deck with stede.
when stede gently takes ed’s heart and shows him how to wear it, and wear it well. no one else is there, no one else can see him. he’s not wearing it for anything, in fact he probably took it off immediately after to go to sleep. but it’s intimate and tender, and stede is showing ed that it’s okay. this part of him that he’s kept hidden for so long is real, and good, and beautiful.
the next time ed wears red is after stede abandons him.
the robe is made of velvet, not silk, but it’s still red. he’s being vulnerable, writing songs about his feelings, wearing his heart on his sleeve. he’s trying to find happiness not only as ed, but an ed afterstede. a changed ed who has been assured that this is okay, even healthy.
then izzy threatens him, he hears the crew chanting “edward,” and he has a moment of realization that he’s naked. he’s in danger. and the safest response to danger he knows is to put his armor back on, to not only cover up but rid himself entirely of the heart that aches so deeply.
Can I get more uhhh claustrophobic characters trapped in elevators?
Maybe they were too exhausted to take the stairs. They thought they could endure it since it’s a quick ride but when the elevator breaks down and they have no idea how long it will be before they get out, they just start to lose it.
