and yet more thoughts. if i could use just one example of how season 2 of euphoria is all shock value with no substance, that’d have to be the aftermath of what nate did to maddy at her own house. it was deeply unsettling and very possibly highly traumatic for her. yet next time we see her, it’s as if nothing had happened. listen, i can perfectly well imagine that she’d be the type of person to put on a show in front of others, but we don’t even get to see how she experienced things when on her own, or any form of reaction whatsoever to being in the same room as nate. it’s as if sam levinson was way too busy adding yet another violent scene or another useless shock value frame to be able to write down a proper character-driven narrative (which is a big part of what season 1 was imo, and why it was so impactful together with its visuals and aesthetics). it didn’t do maddy and what she went through justice at all. it didn’t do us justice as viewers either.

Euphoria (2019-)

Was I contemplating to post it next week, after the finale? It was an option, but then I realized that probably I’m gonna be devastated by, if you know the spoilers, you know what (if you don’t… GOOD FOR YOU) and decided against it.

Euphoria is a roller coaster of emotions and feelings, it’s hard to watch sometimes and morality is really an unknown value, but it’s also cinematography speaking breathtaking, how the episode are tinted in colors, how the stories of each character are linked and mixed, how, at some point, you almost disliked every single character. They are all shades of gray, really, they are half of the time dumb and can be a lot mean to each other, but then you just can’t help but keep watching, because they are hopeless and hurt too. I’m a lot of times skeptical about big shows, because a lot of times they deluded me and left me wondering what other saw in them, but not this time. Even though it’s really stressful to follow. Hope you like this art cover, because it’s really simple, but it took me days and I really like it now.
