Okay so Momoko joined the Chargius and the anime decided to make Yachiyo suffer even more. We don´t see Rena as a feather so maybe she really didnt join them. We see an image of Mitama so maybe they changed her role in the story

New episode was really trippy but nice! Great characterization for Kuroe and Iroha, lovely yet trippy aesthetics a la og Madoka Magica. I was disappointed that a certain something/someone didn’t appear tho. Plus they mentioned chelation Land so Tsuruno arc coming up soon

Oh god this Episode was so amazing, I wasn’t this glued to my screen in a long time. Amazing visuals and voice acting, especially on Yachiyos part.
But it makes season 1 look bad by comparison which is okay since it had to deal with so much set-up.
I like the way Raz put it which is that the game’s writing while creative is often very iffy and the anime is trying it’s best to improve on that. Now that season 1 did this dirty work season 2 can really focus on what makes Magia Record so amazing and I can’t wait for more.
On a personal note I like that the anime is showing what Mifuyu is really like: Weak and dependent on dirty tricks. She got of the hook way too softly in the game. It’s not that I hate her but people sleep on her bad characteristics
Ria being iconic and relatable till the very end.
So far I’ve seen only two short clips from the new episode but boy I like it already
Quick thoughts, SPOILERS and notes about episode 7 lets go
As for new characters, I think Ikumi can be seen for the first time in her magical girl outfit.
I´m kinda disappointed about this episode. It´s almost season finale and this episode still felt like a massive exposition dump. But whatever they´ve got a third season coming
Felicia and Sana team up with the others and save them from Holy Mami/Rumor Tsuruno. Homura tries to use her magic but it seems like Chelation Land is supressing her magic. Which leads to them escaping and grouping up somewhere else. Characters share all the stuff they know bla bla bla.
Felicia runs off on her own and the girls make a plan. Meanwhile Mifuyu and Momoko try to talk some sense into Mitama who drops some sort of backstory about how she wanted to be a good magical girl who does good things and how traumatizing her magic is since she is always exposed to the darkness in hearts and so on. Momoko has an emtional moment and gets Mitama to try and help Kaede. Mifuyu, who managed to let the other girls hear this conversation, tells them how to save Mami and Tsuruno. Connect with the victim´s magic and seperate them by visualizing the person the way they truly are. Like in the game but with more dyre consequences.
The girls proceed to attack Chelation Land and manage to pin both of them down. Yachiyo, who is sure she understands Tsuruno, charges in to connect.
But since she doesn´t understand Tsuruno she just ends up smashing her body. Rumor Tsuruno gets up from laying in her own blood and moves her body like a mangled corpse covered in blood with her bones visibly messed up and loudly cracking.
Also Touka has a god complex now.

This episode was very nice, even though there is still a lot of setup to be done. The graphics were not very good but that´s not unusual for Madoka Magica when it comes to first releases.
Witches are storming Kamihima and the local girls are fighting back. On top of the new characters mentioned above we get to see the Tokiwa Mafia again and Shizuku makes a brief appareance. (Last seen in episode 13).
Talking about characters appearing again: KANAE! Her ghost can be seen trying to comfort Mifuyu (which is something that kinda happened during main story: For further information look up the “Voices from beyond” event)
Kuroe must have been able to defeat the other feathers but seems to be haunted by another girl from her past, causing her to run back into Hotel Fendt Hope. Kyoko and Iroha are exploring Chelation Land while Yachyio is teaming up with Sayaka, Homura and Madoka. Fun fact: We learn that Yachiyo does have an actual drivers license.
Meanwhile Rumor Tsuruno has made her real debut while Mifuyu, Sana and Felicia plan to escape from Magius. Mifuyu tries to rescue Tsuruno, attacks Touka and plans to run of with Tsuruno, who refuses and transforms into her Uwasa form. Nemu defeats Mifuyu, who is later “rescued” by Alina who casually walks away doing her own thing.
Eventually Kyoko and Iroha manage to help Yachiyo and co. into Chelation Land where they team up with Kyoko. Just in time, as both Holy Mami and Rumor Tsuruno enter the stage. Touka appears to be very shocked by Iroha´s arrival while Nemu seems to be sad (maybe because she has to face her big sis?).
As for Walpurgisnacht, the weather appears to be getting worse and worse by the minute and it´s only after Homura talks about it that the others learn about big WalP.
We get a very weird post credit scene of Nemu and Tsuruno that could be linked to the creation of the chelation land rumor.
Also seeing the feather´s use machine guns made out of chelation land minions was kinda funny.
I think the show should be right about done with setup and the last two episodes will be packed to the brim with action.
Super quick review for Episode 5
Shit is about to go down. Walpurgisnacht is almost there and chelation Land is about to open.
As for characters: We see Kyoko again (as a white feather), Ryo Midori makes her debut and Hagumu is seen alongside Shigure.
Kuroe releases her doppel and we can confirm that Kuroe and Kuro are not the same person. Nemu can be seen in her magical girl outfit for the first time where she does not need a wheelcair. Mifuyu is sulking away enjoying her drinks and it´s clear that the magius are just using her like a tool since she says “she is left in the dark as well”.
Eve is downright disturbing with the way she munches up those witches. I did not expect Hotel Fendt Hope and Chelation Land to fuse but it´s a very interesting change. Speaking of Chelation Land, Tsuruno can be seen becoming her Uwasa self which means her character arc is coming up. Getting to see more combat from Sana is nice.
We also learn more about the logistics of the magius HQ (they have kitchen duties lel) and the fact that the wings are encouraged to put their family into an uwasa for safekeeping during the upcoming events. They also look disobidient feathers away and plan on using them later (Chapter 8 events maybe?)
Touka is downright despicable and Nemu just kinda tags along. As far Alina I´m pretty sure she was riding Karin´s mangas.
Still no Kanagi (injustice!) but I´m almost certain that the last three episodes will be very epic and I can´t wait for them to air.
Very very good episode and very exciting even though this was basically just set-up.
Magia Record Season 2 Episode 4 review (kinda) below (spoilers)
Sooo time for me to talk about some things. The animation during the first few minutes of this episode was not pretty. Iroha had some big head shots that were really eh. Sticking with the theme of graphics, these last few fights are insanely fast paced which is nice but it´s so hard to keep track of movement that you cant really enjoy them. You´ve got this random high detail shots inbetween that you actually have to pause which is something you dont want to do in an action scene
Okay now about the plot: Yachiyo better be out there breaking some legs. We get to see Hotel Fendt Hope much sooner than in the game which is nice. I´m pretty sure that train is a reference to the machine Touka built in one of Irohas Flashbacks. I´ve also noticed that magical girls tend to doppel super quick in the anime like you hit them twice and their soul gem is already pitch black. Speaking of doppels: These are some gruesome downsides. Seeing Kaede as well as many other magical girls (including Riko as well as Konomi and Natsuki who DONT have a doppel ingame yet which is a nice detail #foreshadowing #preview) being permanently fused with their doppel is honestly more horrifying than witching out yikes.
Also Mitama wtf. Why are you like this. You´re supposed to be neutral not uncaring and amused. I also was kinda right about Rena betraying Magius (whoop whoop). We get more hints about Walpurgisnacht coming since there is a brief newscast where they are talking about a collection of storms coming closer to Kamihama (remember, humans percieve Walpurgisnacht as natural disasters).
So far there is no (confirmed) brainwashing (yet) so the anime gives us other reasons to dislike Magius. They are summoning big WalP and their doppels can cause really disgusting damage to its owner to the point they fuse permanently and have to be bubbled away (reminds me of the corrupted gems being bubbled away in Steven Universe).
Sayaka, Homura and Madoka show up briefly which is nice. They note that Magical girls are avoiding them which could be due to Mami wanting to keep them out of danger.
Seeing how the story progresses there is no telling whats going to happen next but I´m excited to see what´s going to happen next
Just poked at the new trailer for season 2 and…
It looks like this season’s gonna be especially heavy on Yacchan? I’m game. Also Momoko and gang joined the Magius confirmed, so that’ll be fun. Or heartwrenching, you decide.
I’m just saddened by the lack of Kanagi in the trailer-
Now hear me out, this is my bs hot take.
Rena didn’t join the magius, since she was last seen trying to leave the meeting and was not featured alongside her friends. In fact, she’ll be the one to save Iroha who will then team up with Yachiyo to save the others
Figured out I could provide some quick translations for the newly released German Magia Record clips for better understanding. So here you go! Videos and translations below the cut!
Scene 1)
Iroha: „Hey Kyubey, tell me. What kind of wish was it that you granted me when I became a magical girl?“
Kyubey: „Huh, this topic again? How many times do I have to tell you that I don´t know anything in particular about it. All I know is that you made your wish for someone else´s sake. I don´t know for whom or what you wished for. This lies beyond my abilities.“
Iroha: „Seriously? Are you sure you can´t remember anything?“
Kyubey: „Under normal circumstances I would not forgot about it. Perhaps the reason lies with you? Perhaps you wished for your wish to remain secret.“
Iroha: „You mean I wanted no one to remember my wish from the start? Not even myself? That does not make any sense. I mean, why would I do that?“
Kyubey: „Well, who knows. But is it really so important for you to know what you wished for?“
Iroha: „Yes of course it is! I am putting my life on the line after all and I don´t even know what I do it for. Do you have any idea how frustrating this is? [Sighs] Why don´t I remember anymore?“
Scene 2)
Kuroe: „Have you never regretted your decision? Not even once? „
[Iroha tries to answer but can´t]
Kuroe: „May I ask you something? What did you wish for when you became a magical girl? You know, I wanted to be together with someone I used to love very dearly. But people change and now we are no longer together. It might sound insignificant but back then it was my greatest wish. I was in love after all and willing to do anything just so we could get together. „
Kuroe: „But one thing is for certain. Had I known what would await me I would have never become a magical girl in the first place. If only this silly wish had never come true. Our fate is sealed and one day it will cost us our life. „
[Iroha lets out a surprised gasp]
Kuroe: „Shouldn´t your stop be coming up soon?“
Iroha: „We unfortunately just passed it. Say, where are you going Kuroe-San?“
Kuroe: „To Kamihama.“
Scene 3)
Momoko: „Leave them alone!“
[Momoko saves Iroha and Kaede]
Momoko: „You really have the audacity to attack my teammate just like that. For that you will have to pay!“
Kaede: „Momoko-Chan!“
Rena: „Unbelievable. You always end up dragging us down.“ [More literally speaking she says Kaede is always a millstone around their necks.]
Momoko: „Lets go take them down Rena!“
Rena: „Okay!“
In about two weeks the first few episodes of Magia Record will be released alongside the German dub! As a native German speaker I took a look at the preview clips and just wanted to give a quick review. Mind you, the German language is not really known for good anime dubs (although not terrible).
My favorite voices this far are definetly Iroha and Rena. Iroha sounds different from the German Madoka voice so that helps her stand out. Whereas Madoka is rather squeaky and pitchy with a soft spoken tone, Iroha is more collected while still friendly.
Rena manages to come off a bit bratty/tsundere without sounding over the top (German is actually a very pretty language when it´s spoken in a rather calm/collected way so over the top voice acting is something that´s not done too often.)
Momoko sounds good, although she could be a bit more tomboyish. Still a good choice. Kaede is okay, her voice is rather sweet and a bit squeaky which fits her character but comes of weird when using German. If you are into that I´m sure you would like her. Funnily Kuroe doesn´t sound very remarkable and doesn´t stand out which is really in character for her. She could be a bit more mellow and a tad less confident but she´s fine.
But Kyubey is a walking trainwreck. While I was not a big fan of Kyubey´s voice for the original Madoka Magica Dub, this one is just painful. Kyubey is supposed to be a genderless presenting being and while most voices tend to be a more feminine leaning, this one straight up goes for pitchy girl. No thanks.
