kyoko and homura would have been ridiculously fun if we got to see more of them outside of a dire setting cause they’re the oddest duo and it’s great. homura’s not easy to piss off so kyoko would have made it her mission to irritate her into a fight. they would have been really shit wingmen for each other. and they would have taken each other’s dys-functionality completely in stride.

“Why… why did you pick me to follow? I’m no pure of heart. I’m just an idiot who can’t even keep her own family together.”
When you and @cure-icy-writes start vibing hard together one night in Discord about a fairy tale Madoka AU where Kyoko’s family is still destroyed thanks to her father, but a while after that happens a unicorn named Ophelia starts following her, much to Kyoko’s confusion, and ends up going on a horse girl style journey of healing and learning how to love yourself.
So I had to doddle something for it.
There was no answer from the unicorn; not that she expected one, really. Kyoko stood a moment longer, another moment, hands clenched and trembling at her side. Something about the creature’s gaze made it impossible to be angry, but without her anger, she was vulnerable.
“Why me?” she finally asked, some foreign emotion rising in her chest. “Huh? Why was I the only one to survive? I don’t deserve it. I should be dead and buried with my parents and my little sister. So why am I still here? Why are you here? What the hell am I supposed to do now?”
…She was crying. Kyoko ducked her head and scrubbed at her eyes with her sleeve, frustrated with herself for showing weakness she could not afford. She had to be strong! That was the only way to keep moving forward. It’s not like she missed her dad, anyways! She was fine on her own. She was fine.
Or maybe she wasn’t fine, because the unicorn took another step forward and shoved her muzzle into Kyoko’s shoulder. She was warm, and soft, and Kyoko instinctively reached out a hand to pet her. This was so fucked up. She wanted softness and warmth and comfort; she wanted to sit at the hearth while her mother read a story to her and her little sister played with the embers and her father came home with flushed cheeks and wet boots and a broad grin. She wanted to light a fire and not remember the scent of burning flesh.
“I hate him, but I still want him back. I want my old life back. Isn’t that awful?“ she whispered, and the unicorn had no answer except to keep her warm while she cried. Maybe there was no real answer except this, here and now, allowing herself to be held and boiling with frustration and defiance.
