IMO the only way to really do a Malazan adaptation would be to have it be animated. But not just one animated series. Multiple, all in different styles, produced by different countries and in different languages. Mostly the series cover different events and casts except for when they don’t. Sometimes they contradict each other. There’s a stopmotion special made in France about this barely-related event and you’re just going to have to deal with that. Even within a single series there’s no guarantee that any given episode has any of the major characters that were in the promotional material for it. There’s recap episodes but they contradict the episodes they’re recapping. You miss this one character. She shows up again three years later in a wildly different art style with a different voice actor in a different language. Fans petition to be allowed to make ~6 minute specials about characters and events not otherwise well-covered. These petitions are almost always accepted. They drop on youtube at random times with absolutely 0 warning. Someone drops one in an endangered indigenous language. This makes the news. Normies attempt to watch it. It’s so confusing that they write a bunch of articles about how this is the worst series of all time. This only increases its power. Not a single watch guide agrees with each other about what order to watch it in. The soundtrack to a Nigerian series makes a callback to one of the early Japanese ones and now you’re crying. You still have no idea what any of this is about or how to describe it. You don’t care.
