i-fell-in-love-with-the-moon:

My thoughts while reading(listening) and after reading(listening)Malice by Heather Walter.

To the unlucky soul that might find this post on this weird sight. Please do read the book, it’s amazing. And sorry for all the mistakes in this post. English isn’t my native language, I listened to the book a work and I’m tired

If you tell someone that they’re a monster they’re gonna start believing it.

Alyce at the moment is in a way pretty self involved , but only in a way she needs to be to survive. She can’t see that while they may not have it as bad as her they’re still in no way free. Everyone has a struggle.

I don’t trust Cal. You can’t just completely trust a random guy chained in a dark tower. Especially when he can’t tell you why or his full name. And he’s the only one that knows your mother’s death. And swears he wasn’t nothing in return for helping you. Something is off. He’s either gonna betray her once he’s free or shes gonna find the truth beforehand. Either way he’s gonna play a part in something Alyce is gonna regret.

Aurora is actually really nice. A little pushy and naive. She shouldn’t push Alyse to do the ritual, but I also get that she’s pretty desperate. She might push Alyse too far later on and that will create a big problem

Rose sucks. She’s a horrible human being, however she dosen’t deserve to think she is losing her powers.

I like Aurora as a character but she has a habit of being pushy and stubborn. But while still being able to care for people and listen to the without judgment.

Alyce properly should feel guilty for a Narcises death? I mean in a way she isn’t responsible, but she did create the bracelet cure while knowing the king would use it for harm, she just didn’t know how much. But the road to hell is paved with good intentions.

Aurora forgives the Vilas for cursing her and her entire family. But Cal is still angry and holds it against an entire race and generation that, while isn’t innocent, still isn’t the same monsters he knew.

Sometimes choosing a side isn’t always simple.

I’m unsure how much hatred Aurora will have against Alyce for being Vila, even if she can’t remember loving her. She never hated Vilas, but she might hate what Alyce has done in while she slept. And I’m curious to see how Alyce herself will deal with the destruction she has caused. Alice isn’t inherently a bad person. Neither is she good. She’s kinda in a gray spot. But she is capable of remorse and guilt, and especially empathy. Yes, she hates Rose and she loves messing with her. But she still feels guilty when she sees Rose using Bloodrot, the same way she still saves Roses life after she has lost the competition. She took in Kalov and nurses her back to health. She wants to free Cal and save Aurora. She wants to help, but has been told no so many times that she doesn’t know how to or who she should help. And while she may be furious with Laurel killing her will proberly end up hurting her in the end. And all the innocent lives she took in her revenge.

As much as I loathe the fae lord he is kinda right about Alyce anger. In the end She does let her anger consume her, and in the end she takes the entire Kingdom with her. Granted part of them deserved it, however in her anger she became the one thing Hildi warned her against, the monster they all think she is. But will she stay a monster? Idk cause Heather Walter decided to be mean and make this a series that I now have to be patient and wait for a second book. That’s just cruel

I definitely think it was Mortania influencing her mind at the end there. Such a drastic turn in personality can’t happen in a day. All of Alyce’s morals flew out the window the moment Kal shoved Mortania into her mind. While most of the motivation came from Alyce, it was Mortania that gave her the courage to see it through. Alyce would have never killed Laurel on her own, even after she found out about the betrayal.

I think for the next book to have a sound resolution, Alyce will either have to die at the end or get rid of Mortania. Meaning Alyce will have to choose between her infinite power and the woman she loves. And even in the latter case we don’t know how long Mortania will have been poisoning her mind (I’m betting on Misrule being set a hundred years into the future) so getting rid of her might not even do the trick.

Aurora is complicated tbh. Yeah she’s a bit too forward at times but I also can’t blame her at all because she will literally die if she doesn’t pursue every option.

Nah cause my ideal bribelle fanfic would basically be the plot of malice but with them as the leads….

Oh yeah btw go read Malice by Heather Walter. Its a sapphic retelling of Sleeping Beauty from the perspective of the Villains. Screw Prince Charming, the Villain gets with the Princess in this one! Its a duology and the second book just came out a couple of days ago!
