Man Ray’s Earrings (1890-1976). These 18-karat gold “Pendantif-Pendant” earrings are by Man Ray, one of Surrealism’s greatest voices.
The movement started in 1920 saw boundary-breaking artists like Ray work across disciplines and in collaboration with each other.
Most well known for his photography, Ray created jewelry with Italian company Gem Montebello in the 1960s, with each piece produced in an edition of 12, as is inscribed in this pair, circa 1968.
French actress Catherine Deneuve wore one of the editions in a Man Ray photoshoot in 1966. A smattering of storyboards for “X Marks the Pot!” Man Ray has always been my favorite of the hero/villain characters, and drawing the whole Star family is such a treat! Plus some revisions on Squidina and MR’s arms by Brad Vandergrift!
It was so much fun getting to work with a kooky family/straight man formula. Getting to do Grandpat’s spiel on how cameras steal your soul was particularly fun.
I’m really lucky to be part of such a talented crew. Everyone gave it 110% and it SHOWS! Super grateful to be inspired by these mega talents every day. Be sure to catch it if you haven’t yet–you’re missing out!

It is time to add some weirdness to your social feed by following these wonderfully strange artists of the Surrealism movement. From the bizarre worlds of Remedios Varo to the witty compositions of Rene Magritte, there is enough quirky art even for the most eccentric minds.
