just realized purim and saint patrick’s day are on the same day this year

american jews prepare to a s c e n d

Way back in the day, my college’s Hillel was doing the Purimspiel on the second floor of a bar/restaurant across the street from campus at the same time the whole first floor was doing St. Patrick’s Day. We each had our own space but could hear each other and it was very festive and cozy :P

There was a time not too long ago (okay, maybe 20 years ago, my time sense is not great) when Purim coincided with Mardi Gras. Former housemate and Emergency Backup Bridesmaid (long story) had a Jewish housemate at the time, and so her annual Mardi Gras party got turned into a Mardi Purim party. The most amusing part of which was her attempts to make versions of the usual Cajun fare she made for the party that were even remotely kosher. (Cajun food being heavy on pork and shellfish, not to mention the occasional alligator.)

But to say the least, we could not distinguish Haman from Mordechai by the end of the night.

THANK YOU!  To the 25,000 followers these past few years.   I have noticed that not all of my photos have been banned (yet) and it appears that mesh tops and body paint are not being picked up by the bots.  Go directly to my tumblr page to see those images.

My websites don’t make a lot of money, and mostly support the costs of attending the events I shoot.   I have not blatantly pushed membership here, but now I will.   For the rest of December I’m offering a Tumblr NSFW ban SALE of 50% off Flash4Us membership prices.  You can choose $5 (monthly) or $12.50 (3 month) recurring memberships where this price will hold as long as your credit card is good, or 18.50 (six months) or $25.00 (full year) non-recurring memberships.   This will be good for at least the rest of December.  First, check out my samples and past update links from the url’s above, then if you want to join for ½ price follow the CCBill link below:

Backstreet Cultural Museum, New Orleans LA - November 2019

This  tiny but amazing museum is a  must visit in New Orleans. Both the exhibits and the founder/curator are fascinating. The collection of Mardi Gras Indian Suites with their rampant feathers and incredible beadwork is particularly noteworthy

“I do something in the line between fashion and costume,” explains Alexia Hentsch (@alexiahentsch). The costume designer splits her time between London and Rio de Janeiro, where she was born. For the past two years, she has created custom pieces for Rio’s Carnival celebrations. “I love Carnival. I think it’s difficult not to,” says Alexia. “It’s a celebration of joy, which doesn’t exist anywhere else in the world on such a large scale. The whole country has checked out to go to a party. It’s kind of nuts.”
