LIVE

If you know me, you know I’m a fan of “covert” fight scenes. Scenes where two people are fighting but they’re both pretending that something else is going on. This one from Dreadnaught (1981) is one of the best.

By the way, the guy that choreographed this scene, later went on to choreograph The Matrixfilms,Crouching Tiger, Hidden DragonandKill Bill.

With classic Hong Kong action cinema pretty much dying, I’m always on the hunt for some kind of hopeful sign that someone’s carrying the torch. While it’s hard to find, it’s scenes like this that out a big smile on my face.

This is a classic, 90’s style Hong Kong fight scene from Imperial Bodyguard (2011). So fucking cool.

EDIT:I initially said this was a 2022 movie. I was wrong.

First person scenes seldom work in movies (Hardcore Henry was just ok) but One More Shot(2021)is a fine example of that gimmick done right. If you’re wondering whose eyes you’re looking through, they’re Fan Siu Wong’s. You probably know him from a few of the Ip Manmovies.

Unfortunately, this film isn’t easy to track down as it went straight to streaming in China. It’s a solid little flick, too. Wild plot but the fight scenes are pretty great. Though this is probably the coolest sequence in the whole thing.

That’s my wife as Pai Mei.

If you’d like to hear my wife chat with me (and my best friend) about Bruce Lee’s Way of the Dragon, may I recommend the Fu for Thoughtpodcast?

New episode!

This episode was absolutely cursed from the get go: audio issues, editing issues, upload issues. I like to think I salvaged it but there may be a few dips in sound quality here and there.

This week we discuss the classic Shaw Brothers Chinese versus Japanese film, Heroes of the EastakaShaolin Challenges Ninja.

I get confused as to how sais work, Devan asks about Bruce Lee’s nunchuck usage and bith me and Chris discuss our shitty food endeavors.

Heads up, the podcast will no longer be available on SoundCloud. Full transparency, we were literally getting less that ten listens per episode over there.

This week we discuss what might be the greatest showcase of Mark Dacascos’ talent: 1997′s Drive.

The majority of the episode is sidetracked when we get to Brittany Murphy’s “performance.” It’s wild.

If you want to give our new episode a listen while browsing those wayward creampie gifs still on Tumblr, go ahead!

Spoiler alert: none of us know how to pronounce “Dacascos” and I can’t name more than two Brittany Murphy movies.

It’s that time again. I’ve just uploaded our brand new episode on Rurouni Kenshin: Origins.
I was a hundred percent sure Cyrus and Devan would love this move. Was I right? We also discuss our martial arts experiences and whether we could take Charlize Theron in a fight.
