I had to drop everything and draw Captain Carter herself when I finally got around to watching the first episode of What If, so here she is! I’m always a big fan of when superhero women get to be just as muscly as the dudes, and I really enjoy her suit design.

I used a bunch of new Ohuhu markers for this one, in addition to my usual Winsor & Newton Brushmarkers and handful of Copics, and I’m really enjoying having a better range of browns (from a skintones set) and pastels. It’s going to be fun experimenting with those a bit more!

(This’ll be a print eventually, but not until November because I want to have a bunch of brand new stuff for MCM Birmingham. Watch this space for other news on that front!)

Thinking about how Fury’s “pound of flesh” statement is a direct reference to The Merchant of Venice and how Loki’s “interesting choice of words” is a reference to Tom Hiddleston being the biggest Shakespeare stan on the planet. He’s probably been waiting for a high brow Shakespeare reference his entire Marvel career. Good for him.
