You have never agreed with Loki’s methods or mischief. Yet, with Thor gone and Odin beginning to deteriorate, Loki’s scheme made sense. It was for the greater good of Asgard, and if you reaped some more direct benefits, so be it. Though, not everyone would consider alone time with Loki a ‘more direct benefit’.

“Gods, that was too close,” you said in a rush. You pressed your back against the ornate door. Cool metal dug into your back but it was not as cold as Loki’s hands as they snaked around your wrists. At his tightening grip, you turned your head to meet his gaze.

Loki had dropped the Odin facade as soon as you entered his bedroom. The icey blues of his eyes were a welcomed sight. So was his long dark hair that now fell in loose, tumbling curls over his shoulders. His mouth was pulled up in a closed-lip smirk as his fingertips pressed into your skin, chilling you to the bone.

“Not close enough.” He leaned in as he spoke, the tip of his nose brushing against your own. “You don’t like the thrill?”

You bit your tongue to keep from laughing, as he must be joking, but that did not stop the smile that spread across your face. Loki’s grin widened before he tipped his head down for a kiss. Despite the coldness of his skin, his lips were always warm and inviting. Never slow, though. Loki was always rushing: a side effect of hiding, of being the second son.

He had to take what he could quickly, savor it for later days. However, those later days were rare now. Hiding was still a part of his life, and so it was of yours. His death and subsequent resurrection as Odin had been strenuous at first. Close calls still lingered around each corner, but now they were exciting. At least they were for Loki.

“I don’t feel the thrill,” you mumbled as you pulled your lips from his.

“And why is that?” He snuck another kiss, though it was brief as he slipped his hands up to your waist. With your wrists free, you reached up and gently pressed against his shoulders. Loki craned his neck back, breaking the kiss, and looked down at you through hooded, wanting eyes. Desperate to continue, he repeated himself: “Why?”

“It’s difficult to feel when I am overwhelmed by the sense of impending doom.”
A breathy laugh from Loki eased the tension your body held for but a moment.

His head tipped forward, causing sections of inky hair to fall like a curtain around his face. Without thinking, you reached up and tucked the straying strands behind his ear. Your fingertips brushed against his temple as you pulled your hand away. Loki was quick to respond to your fleeing touch as his fingers wrapped around your wrist and held your hand in place.

“How thoughtful,” he drawled, pulling your hand to his lips. “We will not get caught, believe me. I will not let that happen, nor will you.”

“You have far too much faith in me.” As he kissed the top of your hand, you felt Loki’s mouth turn up into a smile.

“And you have far too little,” he lifted his gaze to meet yours. “For your first lie, you’ve done well.”

“First lie? Bold of you to assume,” you teased. Loki straightened his posture and eyed you with a quirked brow. For the first time in forever, he seemed surprised.

“Really?”

“First lie at such a large scale but then it’s more of a charade, a facade.”

“Hmm, how sweet,” Loki cooed as he leaned in once more. His nose brushed softly against yours, nudging your lips towards his. Though, he did not kiss you. Instead, he kept you just within tantalizing reach: close but never close enough. Not as close as your closest call.

“Loki,” you whispered, your breath mingling with his. A grin spread along Loki’s lips as he eyed you. He wanted to savor your wanting, the look of yearning on your face. He loved you like this; though, he loved you always, and only you.

“Yes, darling?”

“Kiss me,” you whispered, tilting your face up towards him. The tip of your nose knocked against his and that was enough for Loki. His cold hands reached up to cup your face and hold your lips to his. Relief laced his needy touch, as if your presence were a sedative that had not quite taken hold in his bloodstream yet. The calm would pervade, eventually.

Following it, you and Loki would fall into each other like the last time, let the facade you had fixed around yourselves fade. It would only be you two and that would be enough.
