They (the man who is not tall and the man who is not short) are not allowed romantic relationships. This makes the job very popular with Night Vale’s aromantic population. However, over the course of working together and getting to know each other, the man who is not tall slowly realizes that he is in fact demiromantic and not aromantic as he thought. He is falling for the man who is not short. This is why the man who is not short has to die.

Someone has to be to blame.

Marcus Vanston is aromantic but not at all asexual. He has slept with most of the people in Night Vale. Having a one night stand with the billionaire has become a status symbol around town.

Consider for a moment: grey aromantic Janice Carlsberg.

At age eleven, she develops her first ever crush on Tamika Flynn.

She is embarrassed both by the fact that she has a crush and by the fact that she’s never had one before.

That’s why she burned the Registry of Middle School Crushes.

The hooded figures live as a collective aromantic community.

Aromantic Dana Cardinal who became an intern so she could tell her mother that the reason she wasn’t in a relationship was that she was focussing on her career.

Aromantic Dana Cardinal latching on to Cecil as a friend and mentor because he never seems to judge her lack of romantic attachment.

Aromantic Dana Cardinal meeting Maureen as an intern and learning about aromanticism from her. Finally having words to describe herself.

Aromantic Dana Cardinal and Maureen developing a queerplatonic relationship and both of them feeling safer knowing that’s all it is.

Cactus Jane, third most beautiful woman in Night Vale, is aromantic. Many people in town have tried to win Cactus June’s heart, but she never felt comfortable with them. She knew they only wanted romance from her. The Traveler was the first man to offer Cactus Judy an alternative to romantic pursuits and loneliness. Their brief marriage was entirely queerplatonic. Frankly, that’s what the Traveler prefers anyway.

With this episode, we may have our first canonically aromantic character in the form of Maureen. She has previously said she doesn’t like boys, and was recently seen scoffing at the idea of dating in general. It’s not definitive, but it’s sure close enough that I will be latching on to it and never letting go. Aromantic Maureen for the win!
