May 4, 2022 - Santa Marta Warbler (Myiothlypis basilica)

These warblers are found in stunted forests, scrubland above the treeline, and bamboo patches in the Santa Marta mountains of northern Colombia. Foraging in undergrowth and scrub, they probably feed on insects and other invertebrates. Little is known about their breeding behavior, though pairs sing duets and chicks have been observed in August and September. They are classified as Near Threatened by the IUCN because their small range makes them Vulnerable to potential habitat loss, though their population is thought to be stable.
