Rag and Bone losing CEO- will it be just as popular?

In June 2016, David Neville announced that he was stepping down as CEO of Rag and Bone. He has been with the company since the beginning, being one of the two most important designers at the brand. As seen from above pictures, Rag and Bone has definitely changed its designs throughout the years (bottom photo is from Rag and Bone 2011 Winter, and top photo is from 2016 show). Their brand has definitely taken a route of becoming more basic and simple. You can get a great white shirt from Rag and Bone, but it will cost you over one hundred dollars.

People were devastated to hear the news that Neville was leaving, and they are questioning whether Neville and the other CEO, Marcus Wainwright, had a falling out. The last Rag and Bone show didn’t get the greatest reviews, so now the big question of whether or not Neville leaving will be good or bad for the company is up in the air.  Let’s see, but I don’t think it will be for the better.

Stop talking about what she’s wearing.

Let me start off by saying I’m not a Trump supporter, and I normally wouldn’t defend anything Trump and his family does. However, there comes a time when I turn on the news and just roll my eyes at how the media discusses Melania Trump’s outfits. The day she wore the pink outfit (pictured above) that apparently was called the “Pussy Bow” top, people went crazy and tried to figure out what she could possibly be implying about wearing that kind of top. Even more, when she wore a black pantsuit on the night got elected, people assumed her outfit showed that she “was in mourning.”

Come on people. This is ridiculous. Scrutinizing a woman’s outfit and that being the only topic of discussion about her doesn’t help with gender inequality. She probably just chose those outfits because she liked them. Plain and simple. Sure, maybe there is a small chance she is implying something, but why does that matter? Talk about something more important, and leave scrutinizing of an outfit behind.

Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show: Still big… but why?

It’s safe to say that almost every big top model (excluding Kate Moss) has walked down the VIctoria’s Secret Fashion Show. It’s been going on for years, and it has gotten more and more popular as time has gone on. The big question always asked? Who will wear the “Fantasy Bra.” The Fantasy Bra, of course, is a million dollar crystal and diamond encrusted bra, and is an “honor” for a model to wear. Big name models like Gisele Bundchen and Miranda Kerr have worn the Fantasy Bra, and it holds almost like a World Cup win in the modeling world.

After all this time, this fashion show is one of the most anticipated events in the fashion world. But why? In a basic view of it, it’s just models showing the same lingerie- just a little bit more extravagant then every day lingerie. Yet it clearly is more to a lot of people because the excitement and anticipation over this fashion show gets hyped up every year. And though many may argue against this, a possible reason for its popularity (besides staring at beautiful women) is the kind of “girl power” that occurs during the show. It’s not your typical “cat walk” where women look sternly at the camera, and make no engagement with the audience. However, during this show, models are smiling, laughing, and hugging each other as they walk down the runway. It’s fun, engaging, and beautiful to the eye. So, though it may be ridiculous and simple to some people, Victoria’s Secret it still making a lot of money off a fashion show they’ve done for years.

Yeezy- Is his message nude basics?

People have a lot of opinions about Kanye West. It’s hard not to, with his narcissistic remarks and his rude outbursts at award shows or even twitter. But something he always takes a lot of pride in, especially in interviews, is his Yeezy collection. I don’t really have a problem with Kanye, so I feel like I am a (mostly) unbiased person coming in and looking at his collection. Now, first looking at the many collections he has released, it is clear that he loves the nude color pallet. And not just the nude color, but also interested in showing most of the women’s/men’s bodies. Ok, that’s totally fine. The thing I have an issue with is that he releases these collections to a huge audience every NYFW, and each collection looks exactly the same, or are too casual to show at such a big event as NYFW. I do have to credit him in his great use of diversity with models (which he actually got flack for actually requesting only “mixed race” models this past season). However, he has spoken out multiple times that people put his fashion line down due to not liking him personally, but I disagree with that. People are putting his collections down because they just aren’t that creative. If he wants more respect, he needs to create more clothes that are worthy of being respected.
