…A complete masterpost!

Read about the Updates/Notes:

Hello everyone! Here is the updated version of the WITCH TYPES list, including types that were missed and recommended. Please be respectful if there is some form of misinformation or typo on here; I tried my very best and took a lot of my own time and energy to do as thorough research as I could with what I have available, which is a very difficult and long task for somebody with low motivation. I am very in favor of constructive and polite criticism, but I will not tolerate people leaving rude comments without even trying to help me fix and provide the best information possible! Thank you so much to everyone who so kindly informed me of what needed to be polished up and fixed, you are all very lovely people for handling it with patience ~ And keep in mind, beginner witches:

  • You do not NEED to identify yourself as a type
  • You can choose to identify yourself as NO type at all
  • You can choose to identify with as many as you like!

Anyway, enjoy! ➺ Rainy

Each type includes a simplified description (for those who haven’t heard of the type, just to get a generalized idea. The shortened description is in no way meant to be discriminative or disrespectful), a few examples, and almost every bolded term includes a link to a (hand-picked) useful post/website for that type of practice.

Types of Witches

(Some may also fit into the second category)

∴.*☆∴.*☆∴.*☆∴.*☆∴.*☆∴.*☆∴.*☆∴.*☆∴.*☆∴.*☆∴.*☆∴.*☆∴.*☆∴.*☆

  • Solitary- Practicing by ones’ self; not included in a group
  • Secular - Non-religious / Not connecting with deity(s)
  • Eclectic - An individual’s practice that has bits and pieces pulled from different magickal and/or spiritual practices, respectfully
  • (Theistic) Satanic - Witchcraft that is often centered around honoring and/or working with satan in spellwork and prayer
  • Athiest/Laveyan Satanic - Witchcraft worked with the idea that satan is a concept, rather than a real person or entity (loosely put; it’s a very detailed concept). Also known as Satanic witches who fit the secular description.
  • Hereditary/Blood- Including oneself in the practice of witchcraft on the grounds of having been born into a family who also practices. Knowledge and practice may also be passed down through generations, and honor old ways of magick
  • Traditional-One who practices witchcraft by honoring and using old and ‘traditional’ ways of magick; this type of witch might be one to practice modern methods of magick, but they might also stick to traditional concepts or techniques
  • Christian - Witchcraft that is performed to honor / or is performed in conjunction with the Christian God as the primary and only deity
  • Hellenic - A form of non-witchcraft practice in which the practicer follows Greek ideals/culture and honors the Greek pantheon
  • Celtic - Magickal practice that is based from the Celtic culture, including its’ mythology, deities, old ways, and (occasionally) language / symbols. May also describe those who only worship Celtic gods
  • Science - A form of magick in which both metaphysical ideas and scientific facts/theories are mixed in together by the individual practicer

Types of Witchcraft

Keep in mind that each term’s explaination is the basic description of that type of witchcraft/magick; each individual witch might be a certain type but define it differently, as their practice may be different from the next witch

∴.*☆∴.*☆∴.*☆∴.*☆∴.*☆∴.*☆∴.*☆

  • Green - Utilizing greenery/plants/herbs/flowers in herbal and natural magick, such as creating blends of different plants or using primarily herbs in spellwork
  • Hedge - Also known as an astral title, a type of magick that is oriented around more spiritual work; astral travel/projection, lucid dreaming, spirit-work, healing, and out-of-body experiences are all practices included in this magick
  • Dream - (A possible variation of Hedge) Mindful and internal magickal practice mainly based from interpreting dreams and/or engaging in lucid dreaming. Those who intensify as this may “de-code” symbols and messages in the dream world similar to how one would use a divination technique.
  • Sea - A type of magick derived from materials and abstract ideas involving the ocean and oceanic world. Sea/Ocean magick can be worked using seashells and bones, sea weed, beach sand, driftwood, ocean water, etc. and a sea witch might draw their energy from that of the sea!
  • Storm/Weather - Magick that is worked by combining one’s energy with the energy of the weather, and most commonly rain. Weather witches will do things like collect rain/snow water, absorb the energy of a lightning storm, “whistle up” or manipulate wind, predict the weather, etc.
  • Cottage / Hearth - (A slight variation from kitchen) Magick that is weaved, worked, or embued into mundane tasks around the house or for loved ones. Cottage/Hearth magick may be worked into daily tasks such as cleaning, cooking, or any hobbies
  • Kitchen-Magick that is worked specifically through “kitchen craft” such as herbal mixtures, brewing, baking, and cooking, and honors many aspects of the natural world: including herbs, crystals, fey, and the elements
  • Tea - Those who drink tea, make tea, use tea-leaf divination, or enjoy blending herbal remedies! A variant of Kitchen/Cottage witch
  • Tech - Magick that is skillfully worked through technology! A tech witch will most likely have at least a few magickal apps on their phone, digital sigils, or an online/digital BoS and/or Grimoire
  • Garden-While having a garden and/or working in any type of garden; magick that is mostly (if not all) herbal and botanical-related! Garden witches take pride and find it calming or invigorating to work the earth, harvest that which they have planted, and are closely related to Green type
  • Elemental- Magick that is worked by honoring/acknowledging the 4 or all 5 elements: Water, Earth, Air, Fire, and Spirit. Commonly an Elementalist will dedicate different areas of their altars to each element, call upon them during spells and rituals, and use symbols to represent each
  • Water - Specifically centered on the element of Water; water scrying, collecting sea/storm/snow/river/spring water, swimming/bath spells and other water-related actives, creating and using symbols associated with water
  • Earth- Specifically centered on the element of Earth; grounding exercises, rock/soil collecting, strong appreciation of the natural world, creating and using symbols associated with earth
  • Air-Specifically centered on the element of Air; working with wind, using air-related tools (such as the wand), creating and using symbols associated with air
  • Fire-Specifically centered on the element of Fire; Using anything fire-related (bonfires, candles, burning objects) in most spellwork, creating and using symbols associated with fire
  • Flora - Much like a Green or Garden witch, those who work majorily with floral materials and flowers in their practice and in their spellwork! Their grimoire may be heavily associated with flowers rather than herbs, and likewise, one might use flower properties in spell or craft work.
  • Urban Primative/City - For those who live or prefer the urban/city lifestyle; magick that can be worked without the seemingly “traditional” ways of witchcraft
  • Faery/Fey - Magick for those who communicate and work with the fey during spells and rituals. Usually, those who work with the fey may also leave offerings regularly, as thanks for the assistance of a faery in their spellwork.
  • Spirit Working - A practice in which the person will perform spellwork in conjunction with or with the help of any manner of spirit. This includes Ouija, (sometimes)demon spirits, spiritual contact, etc.
  • Draconian - Refers to type of magick for those who call upon or work with dragons and dragon imagery in their practice; whether it be through astral matters or in spells and rituals
  • Seasonal- Witches who utilize and draw energy from the specific times of year for their magick, sort of how a person might have a strong love or connection to a certain time of year! This can also be spread out into Winter, Autumn, Spring and Summer witches
  • Embroidery / Sewing / Knit - One who embues magick into household “stitching” or “string” hobbies such as embroidery, sewing, knitting, stringing, and knotting ~ Basically, one who identifies with using knot or chord magick in many different skills
  • Paper - Magick that is worked with, essentially, paper! Burning paper written with sigils, chants, symbols or spells, creating magickal offerings, items, or sachels from paper, etc.
  • Music - Magick that is worked with music, musical chimes, or rhythm! Humming/singing, clapping, singing chants during spells, playing instruments (even simple ones, like the triangle or bells), or even just simply playing music during spellwork, magick, or during energy exercises are a few common things a music witch might fancy
  • Chaos/Chaotic - A type of magick utilizing new, non-traditional, and unorthodox methods. It is a new and highly individualistic practice, while still drawing from other common forms of magick.
  • Animal- (A variant of Green) Magick that is strongly tied to the animal kingdom, which includes a deep appreciation for all animals, and most often: usage of animal materials in spellwork. An animal witch will most likely be one who loves animals, a person who animals are immediently “drawn” to, and those who appreciate the natural world. Some animal witches might also use bones, wings, feathers, fur, skin, scales, (etc). from deceased animals in their magick, if they choose to do so.
  • Sanguine - Meaning “blood” or “blood red color” in Latin, a type of magick that deals with blood or other life giving fluid; life blood can also be represented through things such as water, or nutrients. A term for those who work with blood and life-oriented magick!
  • Sigil - A witchcraft working majorly with sigils, and the intent that can be put into them to active their power
  • Art/Craft - Witchcraft that can be worked through arts and crafts, simply put! One may embue macgick in creative activities such as painting, drawing, building, cutting, creating, etc.
  • Grey - A neutral witch, who practices magick that neither benefits or harms others. Grey magick may also both harm and benefit at the same time, balancing and neutralizing.
  • Bone - Witches who commonly collect, clean, and use animal bones in their magickal practice, and for things like altar decoration or magick-infused charms/jewelry. Materials used by those who identify as Bone witches are usually collected peacefully or after the being has passed on naturally!
  • Lunar - One who works magick with / honors the moon and it’s energy and phases. This type of witch is also one to favor casting magick during the night hours rather than during the day
  • Astronomy/Space -(A wider variant of lunar) Those who practice magick and correlate their beliefs in conjunction with the planets and stars! These witches may focus their magick with the properties of each planet, regularly read a horoscope or study astrology, and have a love of the stars and the night.
  • Energy - Those who prefer to do magick through energy exercises and manipulation rather than with many physical tools or materials; using the enhanced power of the mind and the body’s natural energies to bring about a magickal result or feeling. (Also may include aura work)
  • Crystal - Magick that is worked commonly with stones and crystals, such as during spellwork or for crystal healing techniques. This may also include chakra balance, crystal meditation… anything that uses crystals, really! A crystal witch may also have an extensive knowledge of stones, including how to identify them and using their properties.
  • Literary - Those who practice magick through books and literature; a literary witch may do thing such as using book divination, often study witchcraft/magick even after the “beginner” phase of learning, etc. Also a term used to describe witches in stories, books, or movies.

you don’t need to make any effort to manifest your desires, you already have them.

gameofreferences:

Michele Carragher, the head embroider on Game of Thrones, made this awesome tutorial to show how she created the dragonscale fabric that appears on several of Daenarys’ costumes in S3 and S4.

Ms. Carragher says that the dragonscale fabric was created because “In season 3 the Costume Designer Michele Clapton wanted a Dragonscale like textured embroidery that starts to emerge on three of Daenery’s costumes, which becomes heavier and more pronounced, growing and evolving as the season progresses” (Carragher).

In stages 9-11 of the tutorial we see how the textile evolves from lightly to heavily embellished. This progression is meant to illustrate Daenarys’ personal growth and the growth of her dragons (source).

Here’s a link to Ms. Carragher’s website.

Eucalyptus is an Australian evergreen that has multiple medicinal uses outside of its magical properties. It’s thick, gummy leaves cannot be eaten in their raw form but when dried and ground up, can be boiled into a tea or distilled into oil. Through this, it can be used as a natural anti inflammatory agent for clearing sinuses, reducing cold and pain symptoms. Breathing in its strong, herbaceous smell will decrease the activity of the sympathetic nervous system, which makes it excellent at reducing anxiety.

In magic, it’s mundane attributes only contribute to its magical uses. Representing the elements of water and air and corresponding with the moon, eucalyptus can be a powerful aid in spells for clarity, focus, protection, purification and healing. It’s ruling deities are Mercury and Venus, so it offers these things from a place of compassion - it refreshes energy, soothes regret and worries, calms exhaustion, relieves concern. It great for cleansing tools, warding off nightmares and creating shields that protect without attacking. It is peaceful and subtle, a plant with a planetary ruling that makes for extremely potent spell work.

thehwrmit:

Steps to prepare oneself for magical work by Draja Mickaharic, as written on the book “Magic Simplified”:

  1. Relaxation:achieving physical relaxation by relieving the body of any physical tension, in order to trully sense the non physical world.
  2. Breathing: together with body relaxation techniques (the yoga dead posture, for instance), breathing through the diaphragm assists in calming any psychological or physical tension, as it avoids physical strain.
  3. Paying attention: doing activities paying exclusive attention to them, without multitasking, not only enables one to do more than previously, but also prepares them for the mind state they need for magical work.
  4. Gaining control of your mind: learning the trance-like state needed to do successful magic, that may be achieved by letting thoughts be without paying any attention to them, and just focus on breathing. When this operation can be done easily, the focus must be switched to just the blank state of mind, without any external interferences.
  5. Projection of the non-physical body: doing simple projections of the non physical body, being careful as they mustn’t last too long. It’s important to note on any discrepancies between the non-physical world one might see while projecting and the physical world, so the magician can mentally correct them and maintain focus on the most accurate image possible. This step must be limited to projections only inside of their house.
  6. Visualization: holding the perfect image of something in your mind, the most accurately and for the most time, the better. This technique is huge help for manifestation and non-physical body projection, as it will be easier to see one’s surroundings more similar to what they really are.
  7. Thought transference: sending a thought of one’s own to another person, who will get aware about whatever was sent.
  8. Identifying thoughts: being able to tell received thoughts and one’s own thoughts apart from each other, ignoring those which are unwanted.
  9. More out of the body work: walking on the streets outside of one’s house in their non-physical body, again noting any differences between the physical and the non-physical world. Non-physical places and beings are not to be interacted with, as it’s not yet possible do determine which are real spiritual entities and which are only projections of the magician’s subconscious mind.
  10. The invisible hand: projection of a non-physical appendage out of one’s physical body, for it to be used while not on non-physical body projection.
  11. Manipulation of physical objects: not a essential step, as it’s not achievable for most. It consists on trying to move physical objects while on one’s non-physical body, using movement of the spiritual body together with intention, or using one’s non-physical appendage.
  12. Applying concentration and focus of the mind: paying full attention to another person when they’re speaking (like everything said is very important) and carefully planning out answers. The magician is supposed to talk to non-physical entities this way, so they can feel their seriousness.
  13. Mastering your voice: training the pronunciation of vogals and doing vocal exercises singers usually do, in order to learn to say words like they are living things, orders to be catered to. One must talk to non-physical entities using this kind of voice.
  14. Listening and awareness: going beyond the usual listening to a person talk and formulating an answer while that is done, by carefully listening and using some of the gained abilities from the previous exercises for gaining awareness of what’s going on inside their mind as they speak. That’s the only way to quite get what someone is truly saying, as a lot of things are kept unsaid.
  15. Applying the results: once the magician has mastered all the previous steps, they’ve gained a great foundation of magical abilities and are ready to do any spellwork they wish. However, many people will end up choosing to not go any farther, as these abilities already are enough help for them.

Draja gives the following advice to tackle different kinds of experimental spellwork:

Smaller spells and rituals: it’s essential to put all attention in the act of doing the spell, and once it’s done, the magician must totally release that attention and let the spell work by itself, without thinking about it.

Summoning spirits: it’s considered wise to rewrite older rituals, as most of them don’t fit with the magician’s life context anymore (however, their essence must be kept), and to use the previously learned command voice when communicating with spirits. If one wishes to physically manifest a spirit, myrrh incense is the incense that best enables the spirit to build a smoke body for themself.

Summoning the human dead: a lot of more specific study on this area is needed before trying to summon humans, as they function in a way that is different from other entities. Using the command voice will also bring good results.

Natural and elemental magic: it’s possible to get to know a natural item’s properties and uses by getting in tune with its energy and directly asking it. If working with elementals, one must be very careful and act with respect in order to gain their cooperation.

Non-physical entities: it’s wiser not to contact with entities that manifest in a way that is too scary or too alluring for the magician. Exchanges should also be avoided, but if trully needed, it’s best to set that the debt will only be paid after the agreement is manifested in a way one is satisfied with.

Other magical operations: if one wishes to travel to another place in the world with their non-physical body, it’s best to do it by flying in the non-physical form, as suddenly appearing on the place might cause self-delusion. Flying offers a small margin of safety when it comes to this operation.

Here’s some basic car maintenance

I’m going to post this is short sections, cause you know, ADHD and long paragraphs lmao

DISCLAIMER I know nothing about diesel vehicles or manual transmissions at the moment. I shall learn, it’s just taking awhile because attention span.

If you don’t know if you have a manual or automatic transmission, you probably have an automatic.

By doing basic maintenance on your vehicle yourself, you will save money, as well as be able to keep your vehicle running for longer. However, if you can’t or don’t want to do some of this, don’t sweat it. It’s okay to take it into a shop, just be prepared.

We’ll do the basics of how to find information about your vehicle first. You should always know the year, make, model, and engine size of your vehicle. This will make looking for parts a lot easier. For this example we’ll use my mom’s vehicle. She has a 2014 Ford Edge Sport 3.7 L V6. (When you purchase a vehicle, the previous owner or dealership should be able to give you this information and it should also be on your purchase slip). Owner manuals will have most of this information in it as well, you can purchase your owner manual online and you might even be able to find it free on some sites.

You should also know where and how to find your VIN (vehicle identification number) . This is usually on the drivers side above the dash in the left hand lower corner on the windshield. If it’s not there, check the car frame on the drivers side door.

If you have any questions, or specific things you want to know about basic maintenance, let me know!

If you are a witch, and think you cannot afford herbs, crystals, or essential oils  PLEASE visit these sites!!

Spirit Apothecary

It is BY FAR the best out of any place I’ve seen! Don’t go on Amazon, don’t go on Etsy.  Those sites are grossly over priced.  I see a lot of people trying to sell stuff for WAY MORE than it’s worth and it really makes me mad.

I mean, $2.50 for an ounce of Lavender flowers from France!

OR go to Mountain Rose Herbs. You can save $1.00 by buying lavender there.  (They sell it for $9.00 for 4oz.)  They’re prices for herbs are great, too!

Spirit Apothecary has better prices for essential oils though- for example: Bergamot Essential Oil is $8.00 @ S.A. for 1/3 oz.  it costs $16.50 @ M.R.H. for ½ oz.  That’s over twice the price, but you don’t get twice as much, so I get all essential Oils at S.A.

MRH doesn’t sell, crystals, but SA does.  They are good quality and by far the most inexpensive.  Also they both have a facebook page.

If you really want to buy herbs, oils, and crystals, but think you can’t afford them, PLEASE, PLEASE check these sites out!!

Note: These are a collection of tips found in various places on the internet and through close friends of mine. While some of these are my own, they do not all belong to me. Most of these did not include a credited author, so I have not included them.

•Mix together Salt and Pepper and sprinkle to prevent trespassing
•Add coffee to a bath to break a curse
•Place sachets of dried rosemary around the home for protection
•Sprinkle around garlic powder to keep evil at bay
•Add lime to your water for protection
•Carry a clove with you for courage
•Mint attracts business - try hanging a sprig above the door to your private workspace
•Place a sprig of thyme under your pillow to bring about prophetic dreams
•Hang a braid of garlic in a sickroom to trap the negative energies
•Put a vial of rosemary water in a sickroom to promote healing
•Stash an onion beneath a sickbed to soak up wandering negative and harmful energies
•Seaweed can be used to ward off evil spirits
•Scatter dried or fresh chilli peppers to break a curse
•Throwing rice into the air promotes rain
•Lilacs rid unwanted spirits
•Black Obsidian is great for scrying
•Stitch sigils into clothes, blankets, etc
•Too Cold outside to storm call? Storm calling / weather magick will work just fine when facing your window and looking out
•When showering, imagine all the impurities and negativity being washed off you by the water, and down into the drain
•The Fae enjoy sweets as offerings the most
•Wear your pendulum as a necklace when on the go
•Use amethyst crystals to recharge your energies. Left Hand - Out with the old. Right hand - In with the New.
•Soups and stews not only are great for healing the body, but they have many magickal properties too!
•Himalayan pink salt can get seriously expensive. Unless you plan on eating it, buy Himalayan Pink Bath Salts. They’re so much cheaper and you can buy them in even larger bags.
•Use coffee filters and elastic bands to make the perfect bath bags
•Use sea salt when sweeping the floor to soak up the negative energies and cleanse your home
•Store your Black Salt in a dark glass jar, away from sunlight.

Feel free to add all you like to this list and share it. Once again, I do not own every piece of information within this post. It is a collection of knowledge found from multiple sources. Blessed Be Dearies!

If none of those websites can help you out there are a TON more that I didn’t have the time to mention. If you have a general question you can always Google search it and an answer should come up!

Useful

orriculum:

⚡  In witchcraft we talk about energy a lot, especially in the context of “charging” objects, or filling them with energy, whether personal or external, as the moving force behind magic and spells.

⚡  Old energy becomes stagnant and bleh. Kinda like old food in the fridge. You gotta clean that out of it, so it doesn’t make the new good you put in “stink” too. So cleanse first before you charge!

⚡  Think of it like batteries! Things lose their charges, and then they kinda feel useless. So you gotta plug it back in to its metaphysical roots.

⚡  there are many ways to charge objects:  ⚡

  • moonlight
  • sea water
  • moon water
  • sunlight
  • fire
  • wind
  • soil
  • planetary influence
  • electricity
  • and many more! almost anything you can come up with

⚡  You can even charge one object with another, like charging a coffee cup with a crystal before breakfast. The magical energy stored in the crystal will transfer to the coffee, and then you have charmed and charged your drink!

⚡  When new energy is introduced to an object with correspondences, and it sits in there, it takes on those new properties of itself and

Regular water (no corres) + sunlight = sun water, water that has taken on the magical properties of the sun.

Amethyst (healing) + moonlight = boosts the existing healing properties of the amethyst, and has moons magical properties too

⚡  You can charge almost any object, with anything that has an energy.
