Nathan Christopher Summers was born into a battle. And his life was a war. All the time I knew him, he grabbed sleep in ten-minute stretches. Ate with his back to a wall. Never sat still long enough to make an easy target. You know what I mean. All of you know what I mean. He was a soldier. To the last ounce and inch of him, Cable was a soldier. And there are three blessings a soldier prays for. To fight for things that matter — things that are real. To find comrades who he loves and trusts, to fight alongside him. And to die on his feet. My dad got three for three. So don’t cry for him.
N-nobody. Nobody needs to cry for Nathan Summers.

(day 90) Cable!

I never really cared much for Cable before the Gerry Duggan series. I don’t care for Rob Liefeld’s art, and that whole extreme aesthetic of belts/pouches/guns was just never quite my thing as a kid. I surprised even myself when I got sucked into reading a Cable solo. Here he is as a teenager (time travel!) with his dad Cyclops and his step-mom Jean:
