Two years of my patreon monthly plants combined - from September 2019 to August 2021. Looking at these together is an amazing reminder of all the wonderful support and enthusiasm my patreon supporters give me. So, anyone who’s ever supported me on patreon (or my shop!) - you helped me get here. Thank you so much for being apart of this plant filled journey, I’m extremely thankful and couldn’t have done it without you!

A piece from 2017, around this same time of year. On a hike through the redwoods, there were so many ladybugs crawling over each other it looked like a shifting, solid mass, and it was (quietly) audible! One of the most surreal things I’ve witnessed (on a third date with my current partner, no less.) Today I happened to do the same hike, and there was a modest few piles of ladybugs, which brought me back to this piece.

The pose is borrowed from Klimt, one of his figure drawing sketches from a secondhand book I found (but I replaced clothing with nature!)

Hedera helix, common ivy is a very important plant for the ecosystem: it flowers in late autumn, when only few flowers are in bloom, the bees love it. Also it have berries for almost all the winter, when food is scarce, and many birds, like blackbird, eat them.

[ID: a badger illustrated against blue milkweed and green bramble. it holds a chrysalis - to its left a caterpillar climbs one of the brambles, to its right is a newly emerged butterfly, and above it is an adult monarch butterfly, wings spread out. The placement of the butterflies follows a life cycle surrounding the badger. End.]

Fever Dream by Lydia Guadagnoli

This is my piece for the Light Grey Art Lab Midnight Show. You can purchase prints and check out the other amazing works here!

“Awhile ago I had the flu along with a high fever. I managed to drift off to sleep and found myself in a chaotic dream where I was staring down into a pond with koi fish swimming in it. After some time I began to notice the patterns on the koi fish were beginning to depict familiar silhouettes such as flowers and animals. But the one that stuck out to me the most was a very graphic skull. I was so startled that I woke up and couldn’t fall back asleep for the rest of the night.”

100 Weird Birds: Day 16

The Hooded Warbler lives in eastern North America. They nest in low areas of bush in woodlands. Hooded Warblers are often the victim of brood parasitism by the brown-headed cowbird. This means that a cowbird will lay an egg in a warbler nest and the warbler will raise the chick as if it were its own.

Day 15: The Little Green Bee-eater for my 100 Weird Birds project. This bird is prone to seasonal movements and is widely distributed across Africa and Asia. Green Bee-eaters are not morning birds as they are somewhat sluggish and huddle in groups to block out sunlight from their faces.
