As usual warning for vague and implied spoilers in any of my DR pieces, do not look too hard if you haven’t finished. But! This is the piece I did for the Rantaro Amami zine, Venture Forth! It was a great project to work on and a fun time. You can still find the zine for free download here if you want to check out the other pieces.
Rantaro’s an interesting character and his part in the plot always makes me think, I had fun putting together a mosaic to do with him! I may make this a print for future cons.

Saihara : Ouma-kun doesn’t trust easily… and he’s not really trustworthy himself. He’d be able to lie even in his last moments, so It’s always hard to figure him out…
Lately I got several messages when they asking about… this one “陰キャ原” they’re always asking. I’m sorry if I answer very late and I want to finish it right now.
This post is huge spoiler warning if you didn’t finish the game especially final chapter. Don’t try copy 陰キャ原 and paste in Twitter or Pixiv’s search bar unless you’re really curious to know.
(I recall oumakokichi had stated and explain about this “character” before but I can’t remember where it was)
There are 2 piano pieces that Kaede plays in NDRV3: Neko Funjatta [played during (spoiler)] and Clair De Lune (a favourite song that she plays to give Saihara some encouragement).

This is the song that is played during Kaede’s execution. To anyone who knows how to play the piano, this is one of the most basic songs as it is played on all black keys. Also know as Flea Waltz or Chopsticks in other countries.
Lyrics (translated from Japanese):
I stepped on a cat, I stepped on a cat. I stepped on a cat and it scratched me. It scratched me, it scratched me. Cat was shocked and it scratched me.
What a bad cat, cut your claws. Get off the roof and shave your whiskers. Cat is meowing, mewoing, pretending nothing happened. Meowing with sweet sound.
I’m sorry cat, I’m sorry cat. I’m sorry I shocked you and I’m sorry. Come here cat, come here cat. I will give you a piece of dried bonito so come here cat.
Analysis:
The cat is Amami.. Kaede killed (stepped) on Amami, who causes her to be executed (scratched)
Alternatively, it could be the mastermind because Kaede set the trap to catch the mastermind. But the trap didn’t work, so the mastermind got away (meowing and pretending nothing happened)
The apologies in the end… just watch Kaede before she gets executed… yeah…
Written by Claude Debussy, the title is from Paul Verlaine’s poem of the same title.
It gives a melancholic piece due to many suspensions. Also makes one feels calm and relaxed too. The melody is beautiful, which is why Kaede likes it.
There is also a track that plays before and after Kaede’s execution called Moon On The Water. While not the same tune as Clair De Lune, it gives a similar melancholic feeling while everyone reflects about the murder, the trial, Kaede’s executions and Saihara’s detective skills leading to the conclusion.
Poem (translated from French) Your soul is like a landscape fantasy, Where masks and Bergamasks, in charming wise, (t/n: Bergamask is a kind of clownish dance) Strum lutes and dance, just a bit sad to be Hidden beneath their fanciful disguise.

The still moonlight, sad and beautiful, Sets the birds softly dreaming in the trees, And makes the marbled fountains, gushing, streaming– Slender jet-fountains—sob their ecstasies.
Analysis:
The rather mysterious poem is like narrating NDRV3. The moonlight illuminates on things at night and reflects on water, like how the plot of NDRV3 reveals everyone’s characters and intentions.
everything is a fanciful disguise and a lie by the time you reach chapter 6. won’t spoil any more.
Kaede wants to believe in everyone, yet in the darkness, nobody believes in anything. Everyone is singing in a minor key of sadness during the killing game. Fits the theme of truth vs lies.
The imagery in the third stanza tells you about human character without saying much. The moonlight (killing game?) reveals it eventually.
