Resurrections is a 2-hours-and-30-minutes-long FUCK YOU to every single one of you that didn’t understand The Matrix 20 years ago and still don’t understand it today. And if you didn’t get that, it means you absolutely deserve that fuck you.
The number of times I have rewatched The Matrix films is becoming unhealthy already. I adored them since 99, now this obsession to Neo/Trinity multiplied tenfold. Binging the four movies got me all ruining my emotions and I LOVE it and will watch it AGAIN and AGAIN <sobbing internally> Sure thing the geek in me has been awaken and the straight in me is once again shookt.
“When I read the script for this movie I cried, because the idea of watching these two iconic actors in these two iconic parts coming back and fighting to have their love again just wrecked me.”
Against all the odds, some part of them still held on to each other, still remembered each other… They promised that they would never let go. And they didn’t. *sobs*
If you’ve watched the new footage you know that Neo is saying: “Yeah… definitely asked for that.” In a very “funny/sarcastic” way.
Let me tell you why just that tiny bit of sentence makes me cry of joy: because THAT, that witty little remark (probably as a reaction to a punch Trinity just threw ad NPH’s character) would not in a million years have been possible 20 years ago.
They were talking in the article about how this movie is so much more “relaxed” than the trilogy, about how there is time for little jokes here and there now, and they were also talking about how Lana’s directing style has evolved over the years.
This moment makes me cry because that level of genuine “intimacy” between Neo and Trinity never before graced our screens (and we did see them doing it, let me remind you). It’s such a familiar, almost domestic moment that I only found in fanfiction over the years, and was never really shown in the movies… the only other one that comes to mind is the little smile from Trinity during the “I missed you/I can tell” exchange in the Temple.
It’s like Neo is saying: “Hey! There you are! That’s you, and you are reallyback.”
