Okay but Lin getting emotional over Mandy singing??? I felt sad until now, thanks

Crying over this.

“I flip the lights and start my day ”

Character line-up for my adaptation of In the Heights that focuses on Nina’s story! (I had to make Sonny younger so that there would be more variety in the lineup, and sadly ran out of time to design graffiti pete :( )

“In the Heights”

A visual development project I worked on from August to January! It’s my adaptation of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s musical but focused on Nina Rosario and her relationship with Abuela Claudia :D

“I dropped out!”
part 2 of Nina poses! These set of poses are more about Nina’s attempts to deal with her dark thoughts (in the shape of her hair… Aka her locks haha.. because she kept a big secret.. get it)

“Mira, allí esta nuestra estrella!”

One of the key moments I changed from the original musical (In the Heights). Instead of having Nina come home quietly, everyone is aware of her arrival and she comes home around sunset.

“What will my parents say… Can I go in there and say, I know that I’m letting you down. ”

part 1 of some poses for Nina! I wanted to explore Nina’s dark thoughts as abstract shapes formed from her hair/locks (haha locks… hair… secret… get it). Her thoughts really get to her head (literally).

“I got every scholarship, saved every dollar, the first to go to college… How do I tell them why I’m coming back home? ”

Explorations for Nina and Abuela! I approached Nina’s design with “lock” shapes in mind (because she’s keeping a big secret from her family and peers), while Abuela’s design is based of pigeons (of course)

carla: i actually have a black belt

nina: in what, karate?

carla: no, from gucci

nina: my boyfriend is washing the dishes and i just heard him say “who do you work for? who’s your contact???“ while repeatedly pushing a glass under water

nina: at least he’s having fun???

abuela: daniela told me that instead of being sad, i should ‘go get it, girl’. so i’m going to go get it, girl.

nina: get what?

abuela: i don’t know. i’ll get everything, just to be safe?

usnavi: my life is a little too much panic and not enough disco.

lincoln: my life is a little too much fall and not enough boy.

nina: my life is a little too much chemical and not enough romance.

sonny: my life is a little too much imagination and not nearly enough dragons.

vanessa: i desire moisture.

nina: please just say “i want water” like a normal person.

vanessa: FIGHT ME, YOU NERD ASS CUNT!

nina: at least try to sound slightly more sophisticated when you threaten someone.

vanessa: oh, i’m sorry. i should ask; dost thou want to engage in a duel, my good bitch?

nina: somehow that’s worse.

carla: a pessimist sees a dark tunnel.

daniela: an optimist sees light at the end of the tunnel.

vanessa: a realist sees a freight train.

nina: the train driver sees three idiots standing on the tracks.

carla: a sprite is anything not static.

nina: a sprite is a variable object, whether it be 2D or 3D.

vanessa: a sprite is a fucking soda, you geekass bastards.

lincoln: say yes to drugs

kevin: say no to drugs

nina: it doesn’t matter what you tell drugs because if you’re talking to drugs, you’re definitely taking them.

NINA ROSARIO THE BARRIOS BEST!
