Anybody remember when in Spongebob the king of the sea literally locked up his kid because he made a cure for literally every mortal disease?

I’m kinda getting sick of all the hate I’m seeing towards Reylo…

I mean, I’m not even a fan of the Sequels in Star Wars, and people are entitled to their opinions about any certain ship, right? But it’s like…people go out of their way to attack these shippers, or put in their profile that they don’t want to interact with them???

Yes, people are entitled to their opinions, but I mean, in my opinion, it’s really not that bad. I mean, they’re both adults, and if you look closely at their history in the Sequels, you could kinda see why some people ship it. People have reasons for shipping what they do, even if it’s a bit “problematic”. And I use that word in quotations, because everyone has their own definition of problematic when it comes to fandom shipping.

Noted, this isn’t the most coherent mini-rant, because I’m a little drowsy, but the main takeaway from this is I don’t think Reylo is that bad, and I really don’t understand and don’t like seeing hate directed towards people who ship it.

I’m black and all I can say is ‘meh’ to all this BLM junk. A lady in Canada was killed, where’s her protests? You noticed that this BLM just support GUYS that commit crimes, not women, not gays, not transgenders, not the disabled. If you can’t support all then shut up

@sapphirewyren Have you heard of Breonna Taylor? She was a African-American EMT who was killed in her own home in a “search warrant” conducted by Louisville police on suspicion of housing drugees. The cops who shot her were under a “no-knock” warrant, which is used to make arrivals unexpected and reduce the chance of evidence being destroyed. Normally, with this type of warrant, the cops are supposed to quickly identify themselves before breaking into the house, but in Taylor’s case, they allegedly did no such thing. Many of the protestors on the streets are also demanding justice for her death as well, seeing as none of the officers were charged for her death. However, the FBI has opened up an investigation into her death.

Also, as someone who previously preached “all lives matter”… I still stand by that claim, but now is not the time to be preaching this. We’re talking about an issue regarding racial injustice targeted towards one specific race. If a house was burning, the firefighters can’t spray all the houses in the block, right? They just go for the one house. We’re dealing with something that has a pattern that needs to be stopped.

Off topic from what I should be posting, but I think we should have a show like Harley Quinn does at the moment, except it’s centered around Lex Luthor and the Joker. I’m not even joking about this, these guys are pretty funny when they have scenes together in any DC media, ngl.

lol

I’m back! (+ Where I’ve been)

As some of you may have noticed, I haven’t been posting to this account at all these past few months. I’d like to take this moment to apologize, sincerely. I am well, and nothing too concerning happened recently. I am hunky dory, for the most part…. *side-eyes social distancing rules*

There have been a number of reasons that I haven’t been active. The main one is simply that I’ve had a lack of motivation to post, whether due to school, or due to the current situation, or just due to lack of investment in anime itself. The same goes to my writings on AO3. Although, I have been making plans to start writing again (sadly, none of those WIPs are anime-related, just stuff I’ve had on the back burner for so long that I’m surprised they haven’t evaded my interest altogether). I’m not sure when those are gonna come out, but hopefully soon, and I’ll be sure to post the links to them here in case you’re interested.

I don’t really delve into my personal life that much, but some personal stuff has caused this lack of posting, and in some sense I think I owe those who care about what I post a full explanation. So, here goes. *drum roll*

This summer, I’m going to college! :D Over the past several months, I’ve had to deal with examining different colleges, applying to those colleges, transcripts, scholarships, yada yada… all that stuff had made the senioritis struggle very real. I’ve officially decided on going to a community college in Oklahoma as a start, much to the disappointment of my parents, who wanted me to go to a 4-year university instead. Long story short, they made me feel so bad about considering going to a community college that I had a mental breakdown and made a temporary decision to take a gap year.

Jokes on them, though. I’m going there anyway, so fuck them.

(I may be making a post about why going to community college is not the equivalent of throwing yourself in an alleyway dumpster bin and throwing it down the Grand Canyon with yourself in it in a little while)

Also, I’ve gotten a bit interested in other things during my extended Spring Break, namely the Half-Life and Portal video game series (those games are god tier, Jesus), and have been playing those rather frequently to pass the time. I’ve gotten so invested in them that I’ve considered making shitposts of those games and putting them on this account. (That, and scrolling through Tumblr. Scrolling through this Christ-forsaken website looking for stuff you love like the crazy fangirl I am.) I’d love to see if you guys wanna see some posts dedicated to those games.

To pass the time, I’ve also been rewatching Star Wars: The Clone Wars, since the final season came out. 1) God tier show, 20175724711/10 would recommend, especially to the Prequel haters, 2) The last season recently ended on May 4th…lovely :) 3) I just got done with Season 3 and am now on Season 4. (At least I don’t have to wait for a new episode every week at the pace I’m going XD)

Maybe might start up doing Duolingo again pretty soon too. Also I reaaaallly need to work on my review of The Prophet.

Anyways, I’m rambling now, lol. I’ll come back to my regular anime shitposting pretty soon (probably with some Half-Life and Portal in the mix). I hope everyone is doing okay during this really sucky pandemic (I’m about to start tearing down my house with my bare hands). Stay safe, stay healthy, and for the love of all things great and cancerous….

stay the FUCK at home

What’s the story?

An app that was published on Google Play received a lot of hate from fanfic authors because apparently, it was stealing their content from AO3 without the explicit permission of the author. Since it states that this app is unofficial (not developed by AO3 staff), people feared that a 3rd party company was stealing their works.

Why I’m making this post?

To ease your minds and prevent unnecessary panic from happening again. Plus I want to create awareness about “stuff” on the internet. Whether it be art, fanfiction or any other original content. So let this be a cautionary tale.

How the app works

The App uses a so-called Application Programming Interface (API). It’s an interface between an app and an underlying web service, AO3 in this case. These API’s are legal and almost every bigger site offers them (Facebook, Google, Twitter, Tumblr). This is the Tumblr API:

https://www.tumblr.com/docs/en/api/v2

It makes it easier to develop applications such as Feed ReadersorStatistics Viewers. In this particular case, the API is an unofficial one and you can download it from Github. Yet again completely legal. There have been years of debate about releasing an official API, as it is common practice with bigger sites, but so far AO3 has not developed one of their own.

How an API works

If you check out the Tumblr API, you can see that you have to register your apps with Tumblr through an API key. This enables the app to send a certain amount of requests to the server for security purposes.

The API works by sending certain HTTP requests to the webserver and thereby fetching content from it. It’s the same principle that your internet browser does, only that the API offers more direct access, e.g. fetch me all posts by User XY.

This is an example of a response about your followers from the official Tumblr API. It’s a so-called JSON format.

What does this App do?

It uses this API, receives the content from the website, and uses the data to display it in a new format. The content is therefore not saved on their servers. In fact, they don’t even have to use a server to display the content. It’s an application that you can download and which uses this API to perform certain operations on the website and displays them to you.

I.e. AO3 does currently not offer a built-in function to display the most commonly used “Additional Tags” in all fandoms. Then why not build an app that uses the API to show you exactly that?

They did not publish your content without permission. You already published it!

The same goes with posts on Facebook or Instagram. Anyone could write an app that gathers information about certain people on those sites. Posts with most dislikes; accounts with highest follower count; random info with no context. Its what you do with this information is what makes it harmful.

Why are they taking money?

For the same reason, some authors have a kofi or patreon.

Argument No1: AO3 is a non-profit, they offer their content for free and this app takes money for the same job.

Answer: Seriously, AO3 people are saints. It’s a very common misconception that software should be free (and a lot of it is free) and that is more of a philosophy than a right. And it’s a war fought for decades. It takes so much time developing applications and most of the time people do not get the reward that they deserve.

The other side of the argument is: AO3 hosts transformative works and they have to do it for free because these original works are protected under copyright. That’s why it is illegal to post your kofi or patreon on AO3 because you are literally earning money by transforming the original work of the author.

Fanfiction is a grey area and therefore it is hard to say when it is appropriate to take money for it and when not.

The moral of the story… Be careful what you put on the internet!

Stay safe and have fun writing!
