I did, lol. The program blurbs don’t do a great job of highlighting the differences between the programs in terms of the culture, educational focus, etc, especially since so much of the coursework is elective-based. I looked at the requirements before I sent the email, too, so it irks me even more that despite me basically saying “I’ve looked at your website”, they just….linked me back to the website. I’ll email them back and ask for more qualitative information, because my wording was admittedly unclear, but the fact that I have to email them at all makes me angry, because it means their websites were too unclear to be useful.
Furthermore, the NUIN (Neuroscience) website (which is what I was looking at originally) doesn’t list the BBC PhD as an affiliated program; the only reason I was able to find the BBC program is because one of my faculty members of interest who was listed on the NUIN page says on his lab page “please apply through the BBC program!” (And NUIN doesn’t let you work with faculty housed in other departments so why is he listed as NUIN faculty anyway?) As it turns out, the BBC program through the Psych department might actually be a better fit for me than the Neuro PhD, but I never would have known, because the program didn’t come up in my various google searches, and the NUIN site didn’t feel the need to post the BBC program in its list of collaborators and affiliated programs. It increasingly feels like these universities don’t actually care about making this process easier for students, and it’s making me horribly jaded.

Well wizard accountants would probably use magic to file and stuff and to check they were balancing their books right. As I mentioned in my answer, there would be a tendency to hire people who had magical abilities over those who didn’t - ergo, no place for squibs.
Imo that’s why the Prewett squib (or we don’t know if they were a Prewett since they’re a second cousin, so yeah) probably dropped out and lived in the muggle world because in the muggle world you just have that many more opportunities for advancement if you have brains but not magical abilities.
And personal headcanons about banking in the wizarding world: there are humans who work in banking, basically at the liaison and account handling levels, maybe handling stuff like investments and all.

a few days ago i woke up and as soon as i opened tumblr i was greeted by a post from one of my (former) favorite blogs talking about discourse in the lgbt community
it was a solid post. but then i actually read the tags the blogger left they just blatantly started shit talking transmascs about how we “need to do better” because apparently we “dont give a shit about other members of the lgbt+ community” (im paraphrasing but thats pretty much what they said) when the original post in question did not, not ONCE, mention transmasc individuals at all in ANY capacity.
that was just what happened that sparked this post but it’s not the first time ive seen it happen and it most definitely wont be the last. i constantly see ppl shit talk transmascs for anywhere from talking about problems that affect us to the Horrible Crime of Being Men (or male aligned) n its really disheartening. like ive seen so many ppl use transmascs as a scapegoat for discourse and just trash talking in general. so many people make jokes at transmascs expense because Haha Funny or whatever n it just? sucks so bad and really upsets me

I find it interesting that just the presence of another female with his daughter set her father off. Apparently these two had suspected their daughter’s orientation or the conclusions wouldn’t have been so rapidly formed. You’d think they would have gotten used to the idea enough to at least be civil. Blowing up and acting like she just murdered her mother is a bit of an over-reaction on his part.
Sonia had a girlfriend when she was at University: you can read those flashback posts here. Her parents were horrified and sent her to a psychiatrist specialising in Conversion therapy. They thought she was ‘cured’ after she met and married Roy, until ‘that awful business at the Landgraab Awards’, as Frank and Estelle refer to it, when pregnant Sonia kissed and danced all night with her then girlfriend Claire in full view of Roy and his peers. The gossip columnist in the newspaper the next day gleefully reported: “Tongues were wagging at the Landgraab Awards after-party when Sonia Goddard, the pregnant wife of well-known Sports Agent Roy Goddard, was spotted in a series of romantic embraces with a petite mystery woman thought to be in her early twenties. Their PDAs got more intense as the night wore on and Roy Goddard was observed to be looking unamused by his wife’s antics, although when he was asked about the identity of the mystery woman he snapped that she was merely a family friend, adding “People should mind their own *expletive* business." ‘
The sad thing is…I know it is a completely REAL and authentic reaction that many LGBTQ people have had to face. Beautifully written, my dear!

I’m incredibly proud of Sonia! This is probably the toughest thing that she’s ever done in her life, but I bet once she gets some time to process it…she’ll feel much freer. My heart goes out to anyone who has ever found themself in this type of situation. And shame on any parent who would put their so-called “beliefs” before their own child! My heart is broken for every one of those children…

I know, it’s hard to imagine such people as Sonia’s parents’ exist, but they do…. it always leaves a very bad taste in my mouth when I have to research the beliefs and attitudes of Frank and Estelle’s ‘people’ on the Internet. It’s depressing AF. But there’s also consolation in the fact that they are trapped in a self-made bubble of hatred, fear and paranoia, and will probably die bitter, angry and alone! But yeah, imagine rejecting your own child because they didn’t conform to your narrow, bigoted expectations….ugh. Just disgusting.
Very well written. It’s a relief they didn’t escalate to violence, but I suspect they’ll find some other way to apply pressure. Roy might also come to regret having encouraged this… because I suspect he will be hearing from Sonia’s parents soon as well.
I actually had a scene planned in which Frank went storming into Roy’s office, but it really wouldn’t have been in character for Frank because Frank had earlier been sympathetic towards Roy when it was discovered that he had been seeing prostitutes. In Frank and Estelle’s eyes, Sonia is to blame for the failure of her marriage, although Frank has often lectured Roy about the hard work involved in maintaining a successful marriage. This storyline is going to end here for now. I just hope people aren’t going to be too disappointed if they expected further fireworks!
I’m tremendously proud of Sonia! ❤ As I mentioned, I was half expecting her to yield to the pressure and I wasn’t going to blame her. I’m also delighting in the fact that her parents can’t do much to "change” the situation as they did in the past. As Roy said, she is a grown up woman, financially not dependent on them, so I feel the bond has been broken for good. Poor them for dying alone, really!

You know, I actually have a sneaking, secret fondness for Bunty, as awful as she is, but absolutely NONE for Estelle. Maybe because Bunty has shown that she does have a vulnerable, human side, and she isn’t an emotional leech like Estelle, nor does she manipulate people by playing the victim like Estelle does. I think Bunty would also find Estelle to be wan and boring and lacking in personality. Bunty likes people who are bright and vivacious and entertaining, much as she imagines herself to be ;)
As a parent, I can’t imagine letting my child walk out of my life over something like who they choose to love. Love is the important thing, not who they find it with. Your heart & your love should hold no restrictions, no conditions for your child ever. Sonia is well shot of those two assholes if they refuse to let her be herself.
