it’s crazy to me that after such a long time people still have such bad takes about edmund ‘’betraying’’ his family.
how are you going to look at a piece of media (whether it’s the book or the movie) about a 10 year old child, being excluded by his siblings, his father leaving him to fight in the war, then having to move away from his mother, finding a magical world inside of a wardrobe where he meets an adult lady who is nice to him and offers him some candy, telling him she can make him a king and if he brings his siblings along, they could work for him in his castle.
how are you going to look at that and say: yes he betrayed them. he knew what he was doing. he choose to betray them. he knew she was evil and that he wanted to kill not only his siblings but also himself. he knew all of this and it’s all his fault.
and this is not even mentioning the fact that the turkish delight he ate was enchanted and would make a person never want to stop eating it until they would literally eat themselves to death.
he was a child manipulated by an adult who was nice to him and promised him to be nice to his family as well. why do so many people talk about this as if jadis told edmund: ‘’bring me your family and i’ll kill them all’’ and edmund just went: ‘’ok cool’’ like where do you get this idea from??????
let me simplify this:
edmund is a 10 year old boy
he is living through the second world war
>> there are sugar rationing, meaning he probably hadn’t had candy for a long time
>> his house and a lot of his belongings are probably destroyed by bombing
his father his fighting in the war
he is forced to leave his mother
he is living with two strangers now in a new house, far away from where he lived before
he doesn’t have a good and close relationship with his siblings
>> peter and susan are acting like parents which makes edmund feel incompetent and stupid
>> they are often excluding him while edmund has a great need to be seen and heard (he tries this by making jokes and trying to sound smart but obviously they don’t really land that well)
>> he wants to get positive attention from them but he doesn’t receive any of that (he only receives criticism)
>> edmund is very very lonely
he finds a magical land in a wardobe
the first person he meets tells him she is the queen of this land
>> she offers him sweets, a hot drink and warms him up from the cold
>> she is taking care of him, trusting him, calling him smart and handsome and lovely
>> she makes an offer to make him prince of this land, and later king because she sees great potential him
>> she would love to meet his siblings as well, peter will be a duke and susan and lucy duchesses
the queen gives him enchanted turkish delight, which upon eating, will make the person only want to eat more and more and more until they literally eat themselves to death

imagining a soulmate au where the first time u touch ur soulmate ur bond is revealed in some way or another, and in it leah makes the joke and fatin pity laughs and takes the tampon and their hands brush and leah has to live w the fact that THAT is the first fucking thing she said to her soulmate
